The new Axon 7 is the first pressure-sensitive Android phone in the US

Earlier this year, ZTE unveiled the budget-friendly flagship smartphone, the Axon 7. The device was the first to be compatible with Google’s new Daydream virtual reality requirements and has consistently been touted as one of the best “bang for your buck” smartphones on the market.

Fast forward to September and ZTE unveiled the smaller brother to the Axon 7 with the Axon 7 Mini. This option was geared towards those looking to for a true mid-range experience, packed into a smaller body.

Now, ZTE is unveiling an all-new version of the Axon 7, and this may be the most impressive version yet. The new Axon 7 features 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, compared to the 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage found in its predecessor.

“As ZTE continuously receives and listens to consumer feedback, we’re providing an option for those that love the Axon 7 to experience it on an optimized and enhanced level. As the first ZTE device to arrive in the U.S. with Force Touch technology, the Axon 7 lineup continues to showcase ZTE’s innovation in the handset market.”

– Lixin Cheng, chairman and CEO of ZTE USA.

However, the fun doesn’t stop there as the new Axon 7 features a pressure-sensitive display. Apple was famously the first to release a device with these new displays with the iPhone 6s, but this marks the first time an Android manufacturer has released a device with pressure-sensitivity.

Axon 7 (6+128) Specs:

  • 5.5-inch 1440 x 2560 Pressure-sensitive Display
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 Processor
  • 6GB RAM
  • 128GB Expandable Storage
  • 8MP Front Camera
  • 20MP Rear Camera
  • 3,250mAh Battery
  • USB Type-C Charger
  • Android 6.0 Marshmallow

When looking at the advancements of Android 7.1 Nougat and its new app shortcuts ability, you would think this new Axon 7 would run Android Nougat. Unfortunately, that’s not the case as the device is still rocking Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The new Axon 7 is available from ZTE directly for $499.98 and you can purchase it via the link below. ZTE has stated this device is limited in availability, so you’ll want to jump on this quickly before stock runs out. ZTE will still be offering the 4GB/64GB variant for $399.98 if you don’t want to spring for the extra RAM and storage
