Each week we will highlight five of the best new or overlooked apps and games. You’re sure to find some hidden gems in these recommendations. Go forth and download!

1. Revolution Icons

revolution

There’s been a lot of talk lately about Google mandating round icons for Android. We don’t know for sure how that will end up, but if you want to try the circular look, Revolution is an excellent icon pack. Over 1,500 icons have been recreated with the circle theme in mind. Apps that don’t have custom icons are automatically converted to circles. The icon pack is free and has no ads or permissions.

2. News Pro

newspro

News Pro is a unique news reader from the Microsoft Garage team. The app delivers a customized selection of news stories based on the networks you choose to use. If you tweet a lot about football you’ll find stories about the NFL. You can tap on a topic to see more stories and customize the news by tapping “see more” or “see less like this.” If there’s a specific website you don’t like you can prevent it from showing up in the app.

3. Candid

candid

Candid is a place for discussing your favorite things candidly. Everything is anonymous, which means you can say what you really want to say without anyone knowing your identity. You can see posts from people in your neighborhood or dive into broader topics to have conversations with people from around the world. Anonymous communities can get toxic, but moderators keep the conversations civil. You might be surprised what you find.

4. Orbt

orbt

Orbt is a game all about orbiting planets. All you have to do is touch the screen to stop your planet from being sucked into a black hole. Every time you touch the screen the orbit pulls away from the black hole. As you’re orbiting there will be all sorts of things being sucked in around you. Avoid those obstacles and the black hole as long as possible. The closer you are to the black hole the more points you can earn.

In Roofbot you are in control of a hovering robot on rooftops. To play the game you simply swipe in the direction you want to move. You can only move one space at a time, and the space you were previously on drops away when you move. To finish a level you must pick up and drop shapes in the correct spots and get to the end. The path you take is very important because you can’t go over the same space twice.
