Hands-on: Acer’s Liquid Z6 series adds more tough competition to the affordable smartphone market [VIDEO]

Acer was on-hand at IFA today to unveil two new phones to compete in the ever-growing affordable phone sector. It’s the Liquid Z6 and Z6 Plus, both of which share many similarities but also have enough different to warrant serious consideration between the two.

On the part of the Liquid Z6, it’s poised to be the cheaper of the two  It houses a 5-inch 720p display, MediaTek’s Quad-Core MT6737 chipset, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, an 8MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, 2,000mAh battery, and more.

As you’d expect, the Z6 Plus opts to one-up the weaker siblings in a few ways. The display jumps to 5.5 inches with 1080p resolution, the chipset goes up to octa-core circuitry, RAM is tripled to 3GB and storage is quadrupled to 32GB. The camera on the rear also jumps to 13MP, and the bigger device allows for a 4,080mAh battery. Beyond that, the Z6 Plus has offers a full-metal design with a fingerprint sensor on the front.

Of course, with such big differences in features and specs comes a big difference in price tags. You’ll be able to snag the Liquid Z6 for the equivalent of just $130 in EMEA this November, while the more premium option will set you back $280 once it lands this December. Those are great value-packed price tags if you don’t need the flashy flagships from the likes of Samsung and LG. Be sure to check them out in closer detail with our hands-on video and photos above.
