There was a time when YouTube was the only place to go for online video. Nowadays, every social network has its own video platform. Facebook poses the biggest threat to YouTube, and Google is well aware of that. VentureBeat is reporting that Google is working on a brand new feature called “Backstage” to combat Facebook and Twitter.

Backstage can be easily summed up as the Facebook timeline, but for YouTube. Creators will be able to share photos, text posts, links, polls, and more to subscribers. This content will be displayed in a new channel tab. The idea is you won’t have to visit Facebook or Twitter to get social updates from your favorite creators.

This is a great idea for YouTube, but it will ultimately come down to the creators. Many creators have built up huge followings on other social networks. Will they adopt YouTube Backstage as well? The report says we could see Backstage by the end of this year. What do you think of the idea?
