Android 7.0 Nougat is running on the Nexus 5 with a little modding

Yesterday, we wrote about the Nexus 5 being left out in the rain. Android 7.0 Nougat marks the end of the line for a very popular device. There will be no official update to Nougat for the Nexus 5, but that never stops the hard working developers at XDA. They already have a working port of the AOSP ROM for the Nexus 5.

This is a very early port, so there’s a lot of stuff that doesn’t work. The main thing being the camera. Bluetooth is another thing that doesn’t work, and the all around stability is not perfect. This is not a ROM you’ll want to run on your daily driver. It shows that it’s possible for Nougat to run on the Nexus 5, and the ROM should only get better from here.

To flash this ROM on your Nexus 5, you’ll need to have TWRP. Do a full wipe before installing the ROM. Check the thread at XDA for full details on how to get this up and running.
