Verizon has made major changes to the software on the Galaxy Note 7

U.S. carriers love to change things for the sake of changing things. It’s always very apparent on Samsung devices. The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is available on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon, which makes it easy to see the differences between the four models. There are always random changes, but this year Verizon has gone above and beyond.

Verizon is no stranger to “customizing” Android phones. They love to put their logo in annoying places, but they also tinker with the software. In the case of the Note 7, they’ve made some major changes to the software. Changes that make certain parts of the phone unrecognizable. Here are just a few of the things Verizon felt the need to “improve.”

  • Samsung Cloud is not included (no free 15GB of storage)
    • but don’t worry, Verizon Cloud is included!
  • The new Settings menu was killed in favor of the old style
  • Suggestions at the bottom of Settings have been removed
  • Samsung Pay is not pre-installed
  • Device Maintenance has been removed from Settings
  • Bloatware up the wazoo

As Droid-Life points out, it is absurd that this is still happening in 2016. It’s absurd that Verizon still does it, and it’s absurd that Samsung allows them to do it. You expect a few Verizon apps here and there, but to completely change the way the Settings menu looks for no apparent reason? That’s not good for anyone. What happens when Verizon users read how-to guides and their phone doesn’t match up?

Do we have any Verizon users with the Note 7? How do you feel about the changes Verizon has made to your device?

Ever since I flipped open my first phone I've been obsessed with the devices. I've dabbled in other platforms, but Android is where I feel most at home.
