How to SIM unlock the LG G5

The LG G5 may not be the most popular Android smartphone of 2016, but it is one of the most interesting devices we’ve seen so far. LG G5 owners can swap in unique modules to enhance the audio or camera functionality of their phone or seamlessly connect with different LG Friends peripherals which include a VR headset, a robotic ball or a 360 camera. But as different as the LG G5 is from other smartphones, it still features the same SIM card functionality as all other phones on the market. If you purchased the LG G5 from a service provider, you’ll need a SIM unlock code if you want to use a SIM card from another service provider in the phone.

Below are a few different SIM unlocking options that may work to SIM unlock your phone. Keep in mind that a few different service providers have strict SIM unlocking policies and may not allow your phone to be unlocked at all. Free LG G5 SIM Unlock

It’s pretty easy to find a SIM unlock service like Android SIM Unlock which will sell you a SIM unlock coded for the LG G5 for as little at $9.90, but we always recommend trying to hunt down a free code before paying for one. This process does take a bit longer, but who can refuse the allure of FREE? While your service provider is guilty of locking your phone in the first place, there’s a chance that they’ll give you a free SIM unlock code for your phone, just as long as you meet a few of their stipulations. Typically the stipulations require that you to have service with the company for a minimum number of days and that the device you want to unlock is paid in full. Below is a detailed list of what each US service provider requires.

Verizon

• Congratulations! Your phone is SIM unlocked right out of the box!

T-Mobile

• The device must be paid in full.
• The device must have been active on the T-Mobile network for at least 40 days
• The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked to T-Mobile.
• The account associated with the device must be in good standing. If the device is associated with a canceled account, the account balance must be zero, including all pending charges
  The device must be paid in full.

AT&T

• Device’s service commitments and installment plans are completed, and all early termination fees are paid in full.
• Device is not currently active on a different AT&T customer’s account.
• Device must not be reported lost or stolen.
• Device is not associated with fraudulent activity.

Sprint

• The device is Domestic/International SIM Unlock capable
• The device must be or have been active on the Sprint network for a minimum of 50 days
• The associated account is in good standing
• The associated contract has been fulfilled or the device payment plan has been paid in full
• The device has not been reported as lost or stolen, and not associated with fraudulent activity

• T-Mobile: use the T-Mobile Device Unlock app on your phone to SIM unlock your LG G5
• AT&T: visit AT&T’s device unlock portal and complete the form
• Sprint: call Sprint’s customer service line (1-866-866-7509) and request your code

If you don’t qualify for a free code, you’ll need to use a third-party service to get an unlock code for your LG G5. 1. On your G5, open your dialer app and enter #06# to display your phone’s IMEI number
2. Visit the LG G5 page on Android SIM Unlock
3. Enter the IMEI number, your email address and click Proceed to Checkout Now
4. Enter your payment details and complete the checkout process to place your order
5. Your LG G5 SIM unlock code will be emailed to you within 5 to 30 minutes
6. Once you have received your code, replace your SIM card with one from a different service provider
7. When prompted, enter the SIM unlock code you received
8. The phone will then reboot to finalize the SIM unlock process

T-Mobile

1. Dial #06# from your phone to display the IMEI number
2. Go to the T-Mobile Device Unlock page on Android SIM Unlock
3. Enter in your phone’s IMEI number, email and payment information
4. Unlock confirmation for your phone will be emailed to you within 1 to 3 days
5. Once confirmation is received, open the T-Mobile Device Unlock app on your phone (ensure a data connection is available)
6. Tap Continue > Permanent Unlock
7. The phone will then reboot to finalize the SIM unlock process

Congratulations! Your LG G5 is now SIM unlocked and can be used on any GSM network around the globe.
