Download This: ‘Third Eye’ helps you catch people who try to use your phone

0

It’s happened to all of us. You leave your phone unattended and a friend or family member takes it and writes an embarrassing Facebook status under your name. After you figure out what’s happened, no one wants to own up to it. Third Eye is an app that will help you catch those people who try to break into your phone.

Third Eye is incredibly simple. If someone unsuccessfully tries to unlock your phone, Third Eye snaps a photo with the front-facing camera. When you return to your phone and unlock it, Third Eye delivers a notification with the photo. You can choose the number of unlock attempts it takes to trigger the photo. Third Eye can also tell you when the last time your phone was unlocked. So even if someone was able to successfully unlock it, you’ll know about it.

The beauty of Third Eye is that “it just works.” There’s not a lot of set-up required. Once you grant a few necessary permissions, it’s good to go. That’s not to say it’s without options. You can disable the “Last Unlock Time” notification, choose where photos are stored, or exclude photos from the phone’s gallery altogether.

If there’s a downside to Third Eye it’s that you can’t really use this app to catch real thieves, but that’s not the intended purpose. It’s for catching people you know trying to mess with your phone. A real thief will most likely run off with the phone, regardless of the lock screen. Even if they don’t, you’re probably not going to recognize the person. Check out our guide on lost or stolen phones for more apps.

Third Eye is an extra eye that you can use to spy on your phone when you’re away. If someone tries to unlock your device, Third Eye will show you their face. The app requires very little configuration to use, but there are some handy options available to you. Third Eye is completely free to download and use. For $0.99 you can remove ads, but they aren’t intrusive at all. Give Third Eye a try and catch your next intruder.
