Spotify is being forced to change to keep up with the times, and the latest change comes to its Family Plan. Previously, one family member would pay the normal $10 a month, and then each additional member would pay $5 a month for the Premium services. With this new plan, families are only paying $15 a month, with the ability to add up to 6 different users to the account.
For the sake of comparisons, the new Spotify Family Plan matches up directly with that of Google Play Music since they both cost about $15 per month, and allow for 6 users on the account.
With the Spotify Family Plan, listeners get:
- Separate accounts. Everyone gets their own account with their own playlists, saved music and personal recommendations.
- Premium for everyone. Everyone on the plan gets the full Spotify Premium experience. Listen offline to more than 30 million songs. Play any song, anytime, on any device. No restrictions. No ads.
- Better pricing. Music at your fingertips has never been cheaper for up to 6 people — all collected on a single bill.
There are no changes to what’s being offered within Spotify Premium, as you get the same great features as everyone else. The big feature is the ability to have separate accounts so you can have your own playlists and music selection, and not get lost in Dad’s old 80’s hair-band questionable music selection.
The changes will take effect with your next billing cycle, and will do so automatically. This new plan is also available worldwide so if you’re worried about not being able to take advantage, Spotify nixed those concerns right away.
