Google releases Phone and Contacts apps on the Play Store [UPDATE]

0

It’s “Update Wednesday” and with that, Google isn’t just updating a handful of their apps on the Play Store — they’re adding a few new ones as well. New today is the stock Android dialer (Phone) and Contacts apps, apparently only available for Nexus, Android One, and Google Play Edition devices running Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

As far as whether or not anything new was added, we’re only seeing a call blocking add to the dialer, not sure if there’s any changes with Contacts. Although you wont be able to download these from the Google Play Store onto something like the HTC One A9, apparently Contacts can be sideloaded if you’re willing to go that route. Links provided below for those interested.

UPDATE: And just like that, the apps have been removed from the Play Store. What gives? Either way, you can still sideload them if you like.

Download on Google Play: Phone (Dialer) | Contacts

Sideload from APKMirror: Phone (Dialer) | Contacts

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

This could be our first look at Android 6.0 Marshmallow for the Samsung Galaxy S6
