Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 announced with Intel Atom chipset, metal build and thinner profile

Xiaomi had another device to bring to us today. It’s a bit bigger than the phablet they revealed earlier — this is an Android 5.1 Lollipop tablet, and boy does it look nice. With a full metal build coming in at just 6.95mm thin, they are closing in on iPad-level quality and looks. But does that translate to quality under the hood?

Maybe. Xiaomi opted to go with Intel’s Atom X5-Z8500 chipset, a 64-bit quad-core Cherry Trail chipset used in many Windows tablets today (speaking of which, you can get this model in Windows flavor if you aren’t keen on Android 5.1 tablets). It also sports 2GB of RAM, USB Type-C, an 8 megapixel rear camera, 5 megapixel front camera and a 6,190mAh battery. The display is 7.9 inches with 2048 x 1536 resolution.

And all of that starts at $156 for the 16GB model, and just $203 if you opt for 64GB. Not bad, Xiaomi, not bad. We’re sure import options will be plentiful once they’re ready to push this thing out of the door so be sure to explore those if you’re interested.
