Taking a cue from apps and games that offer a free entry fee, albeit with limited functionality, password management app LastPass has announced that their services are now free for mobile users. Available on iOS, Windows Phone and Android, like most things in life, there’s a catch.

LastPass users will be able to take full advantage of the app’s password storage, but only on the type of device they sign up with. For instance, sign up on your tablet and password sync will work across all of your tablets. In other words, LastPass is now free for smartphones or tablets or desktop.

Those looking for cross platform password sync will need to shell out $12 a year for LastPass Premium which keeps a shared folder between all your devices. LastPass isn’t running a charity after all.
