Heads-up: Sprint is pushing out a smorgasbord of updates to some of their handsets today. Namely, the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Samsung galaxy S5, Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge are all getting very small, but very important patches.

The patch includes a fix for the Stagefright vulnerability, which would allow no-gooders to gain full unadulterated access to your phone by simply sending an MMS video. You can read up more on it here, and once you do you’ll see why you want these goods ASAP.

For the Nexus devices, you’re looking for build LMY48I, and this same build should soon find its way to those not on Sprint’s network. As for the Samsung devices, here’s what you’re looking for:

  • Galaxy S6 (G920PVPU2BOGA)
  • Galaxy S6 Edge (G925PVPU2BOGA)
  • Galaxy S5 (G900PVPU3BOG1)
  • Galaxy Note Edge (N915PVPU4COG1)

Good on both Sprint and Samsung to provide a timely patch, and we hope other carriers aren’t far behind in getting this done.

[Update]: Google has officially confirmed that all versions of the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 will be receiving the Stagefright fixes today. The company also confirmed the Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 9, Nexus 10 and Nexus Player will all be getting the same upgrades.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.
