The NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet may have been recalled for a scary battery issue, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other perfectly functional units out there which need ongoing treatment. NVIDIA has released Android 5.1.1 for the tablet.

As we know, Android 5.1.1 didn’t change much over the base Android 5.1 update the tablet already had, with Google using the release to clean up some longstanding and annoying bugs. As such, NVIDIA hasn’t done much either, though they did note they provided optimizations and fixes for some audio issues the tablet suffered.

Beyond that, it’s your typical stability improvement, and sometimes that’s all we need. You should be able to find the new goods by heading to Settings > About Tablet. Be sure your battery is charged a good bit before attempting to pull it down.
