First generation Motorola Moto G owners — the 2013 model — are being greeted today with an update to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. It’s an update that’s been a long time in the making, with 5.0.2 originally hitting devices via a soak test all the way back in December of last year.

Motorola has had 5 months since then to iron out all the bugs associated with earlier versions of Lollipop, so we don’t expect to find any of them in this release. What you will find is a whole lot of changes on the UI side of things, along with a handful of new features introduced in Lollipop. As for the Motorola Moto G 4G LTE model, well, Motorola told us not too long ago that this version would leapfrog straight to Android 5.1.

For a full rundown of everything new, you can hit up Motorola’s release notes page here. In the meantime, jump into your settings app and check for an update if it hasn’t already hit your device. Make sure to let us know how everything is working out for you too.

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  1. They were $20 at Best Buy. Now with the update, what a deal!

    1. As I’ve seen, it’s just for the xt1032 and xt1034, GSM models, single Sim.

      1. I believe that you are right. What a pity, maybe next time. Thanks.

    2. Not sure if the Verizon $20 Best Buy ones got this update? Can anyone confirm if so?

  2. Blew dust off my Moto G … and now downloading Lollipop. Nice.

  3. Whoops I forgot to let you guys know last night. I took the picture, but then fell asleep. I thought this was also going straight to 5.1, but I digress. Now we have two 5.0s, two 5.1s, and one Jelly in the household.

  4. Not too shabs for a device that “old”.

  5. This update started about a week ago, at least that’s when my coworker I sold my xt1034 got it.

    1. Surprised that your co-worker knows what Android is, let alone that it was updated. Google is almost as bad as HTC for their lack of proper marketing for Android. They just recently started advertising Android. Should have started 3-4 years ago.

      1. I educated him well. I’ve had Android devices for 6 years, since the HTC Magic.

  6. Am I missing something? This update was released in India in January

    1. It just started rolling out here in the USA.

  7. Mm mine has been on this version for a while now, probably more than 2 months.

    1. Impossibru!

    2. Same here, I’ve had it for months… I’ve been waiting for the 5.1 update lol
