ASUS ZenFone 2 already available on Amazon for only $199

Amazon ASUS ZenFone 2 now available

Earlier today, ASUS revealed availability of the ASUS ZenFone 2 for North America. The phone was set to launch tomorrow, May 19th but it seems Amazon has already jumped the gun with both 16GB of 64GB of the phone in all 3 colors now available with free Prime 2-day shipping.

Seems the NA version is GSM-only (no real surprise there), so if you’re on Sprint or Verizon you’re out of luck. We’ve already received an order confirmation, with one day shipping saying it’ll arrive tomorrow. Feel free to head on over and start purchasing to get a head start!

Thanks, Gerard!

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

Facebook Messenger could be adding games in the near future

  1. Link is generic, just takes you to the site.
Got a direct link to AMAZON’s offering(s),without the 3rd party sellers?

    1. Really? It’s supposed to be a direct link. Try this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VWKKHKU/

      1. EDIT:
Working on desktop view/PC,mobile browser is the generic link.
        Weird stuff…….

        1. Thanks I switched to desktop mode and ordered. This one is going to my mom but man I’d definitely like to play with it for a little while before giving it up.

          1. I was literally trying to figure out who I could gift this to as I’m all backed up with phones here. Might get it for my mom’s and sell off her Moto G 2nd Gen.

          2. Funny my mom is rocking a moto g as well. Are we related? She’s starting to get tech savvy. She requested “I’d like a larger screen but not at the cost of battery life”

          3. Add a third on that train. My mom is rocking the OG Moto G tho. I had already ordered her the Alcatel Onetouch Idol 3, but Asus is tempting me right now. I’m also contemplating giving up my flagship to test out these new 64 bit devices.

          4. My mom is in her late 50’s and she’s a fair amount more tech-savvy than most people (especially women) her age.

          5. As much as I’d like to get this phone now, can’t justify it aleady having two phones both less than two months old.
Maybe if the aftermarket development community gets on-board w/root/etc….

          6. You can gift it to me since you’re having such a hard time figuring out what to do with all those phones lol..seriously tho this phone and the new xiaomi phone id like to give a tryout to but more than likely im just gonna wait on the note 5 to come out. I have the galaxy s4 right now and i just wanna stick with the safe route for now. These phones cost alot and is too risky for me to go with anybody but the big boys (samsung, lg, htc, etc.) I really want the sony experia z4 but im almost afraid to give it a try. It just seems like they don’t go all in on their phones and i cant bring myself to trust them plus I’m on att but i can switch in july if i want.

      2. Any idea how the data is handled if it has two sim cards?

        1. Just caught TechnoBuffalo’s unboxing-mini review.
The 2nd SIM is 2G only.
Chris will probably shed more light on this once he gets his phone…….

  2. I want a review. PLZ

  3. Dang, no band 12 for T-Mobile. But at least it has 2 and 4 for LTE.
    (Link doesn’t work on mobile)
Alcatel Onetouch Idol 3 still wins it seems. Asus, you almost had me.

    1. But ASUS is 64GB ROM

      1. Yeah but full LTE compatibility is more important for me, as well as better app compatibility on Snapdragon.
Either way, Yota has my money now.

  4. Does anyone know if Intel is open like Qualcomm to support AOSP ROMs?

    1. Probably, and possibly more so. Intel is one of the most open source friendly major hardware manufacturers around.

      https://software.intel.com/en-us/oss

In fact, Intel’s open source license is far more permissive than GPL. It’s based on the BSD license with some export restrictions added (crypto stuff) and the BSD license is basically “use this code however you please you can make changes sell it whatever and you don’t even have to share the source back with us”

      http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Open_Source_License

      1. G thanks and cool. One thing I don’t like about Exynos no AOSP ROMs

  5. Chris, I need your 3rd week review. If you don’t abandon this one in two weeks, I’m buying.

    1. Already got one coming in the mail. I’ll keep ya’ll posted. :P

      1. Ordered the Gold 64GB from B&H Photo/Video,saved money on the tax (zero for out-of-NY State orders),then,blew the savings on next-day shipping,arrives by 10:30 A.M. on 5/20/15.

      2. I’m guessing it won’t be a N5 killer, but if it is, I’d love to know about it!

  6. Returning g3 for 64gb zen phone for sure.

  7. Nevermind I’ll keep g3 because of QHD vs HD

    1. It’s not a big difference. Plus battery life

      1. Yeah I guess not, and save me about $100 also

    2. For any G3 users, I think Zenfone 2 is not worth an “upgrade”.

  8. Now backordered

    1. The Red & Gold 64 GB versions are in-stock @ B&H Photo/Video.
Free shipping & no tax on sales shipping to destinations outside of NY.

      1. Thanks, i ordered one!

  9. With all that money you can buy a Zen phone 2

  10. Good price and specs but I don’t think that phone will have support and os upgrade like samsung and iphone
