Chromecast support arrives on FOX Now, FXNow, CBS All Access, and more

The Chromecast is about to get a slew of new content. Google revealed today that their affordable little dongle is now officially supported by a handful of new TV streaming services, as well as their Android apps on Google Play.

Announced on the official Google Chrome Blog, streaming on FOX Now, FXNow, CBS All Access, HGTV, Pluto TV, or Haystack will now display that familiar Chromecast icon on the video controls. If castin’ from your computer is more convenient, you should have no problem when visiting any of the new respective websites above.

Of course, not all the above services are free, so you may have to subscribe to enjoy some of their shows on your Chromecast. While the Chromecast is probably the best $35 we’ve ever spent on a video streaming device, we’re still anxiously awaiting the Chromecast V2 with 5GHz support. Hopefully that’s coming very soon.

  1. This is great news. I’ve been debating on aCBS All Access subscription.

On a related note, is anyone else having issues casting from Chrome extension? Mine quit working about a month ago ago. A few other cases listed in Google help support forums.

    1. Chromecast has always been a bit buggy for me. I never know if it’s the actual Chromecast itself, the service, or my wireless connection giving me problems. Too many variables.

      1. I’ve got 3. All work with phone or tablet. Chrome continues to say “No Cast Devices Found”. I don’t get it.

        1. I stream movie from my pc to my chrome cast all the time using Videostream for Google Chromecast

        2. if your home WiFi network has a guest-mode for guest to login to a Guest WiFi, that is probably causing the problem, Disable Guest Mode WiFi, and the problem might be solved. at least that’s how I solved my issue.

          1. Thanks @JRomeo:disqus for the help. I’ve never enabled a guest mode though. Neither for the wifi or the Chromecast, cause it has guest mode too.

  2. Really happy with Chromecast after replacing my 6 year old draft N router – seems like you need at least 50 Mbs at the Chromecast dongle for smooth streaming. As for services like CBS All Access…not so much. They’re OK if you don’t mind watching the same set of 3 commercials 4 times in an hour long show. Even Hulu Plus didn’t suck that bad. Seems there’s no end to their greed. Even when you pay for the service. Fired ’em after one show.

    1. A bit random but I tried streaming Hulu on my Fire TV Stick for the first time the other day, and it would not stop buffering. It made me realize that everything on my Chromecast has been extremely smooth. Well at least for the past year.

  3. Best!! $35!! EVAR!! I tell EVERYONE to get one just to get one. OMG!!
