Moto 360 (2nd Gen) looks to have gotten its Bluetooth certification

It was during last year’s Google I/O that Motorola formally unveiled the Moto 360 — the world’s first round smartwatch powered by Android Wear. Although it’s not in any way certain, it only makes sense that Motorola could be planning to do the same for a follow up.

With this year’s Google I/O looming on the horizon (things officially kick off May 28th) a mysterious Motorola device — going by the device name BTMW03 — recently gained its certification via the Bluetooth Special Interest group. Now, there’s nothing in the documentation that says that this is for a fact the Moto 360 2nd Gen. But model number is way too close to the original Moto 360’s BTMW01 that appeared around this same time last year.

Whether it’s at Google I/O or a separate event, we imagine it wont be too much longer before Motorola makes this thing official. Now if we can just figure out exactly how they’ll be updating the hardware from last year’s model, we could sleep a little better at night.

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  1. I truly hope that they don’t take the whole summer to release it. Currently I have the GWatchR, but was looking for something more classy looking for when going out with the wife. LG Urbane looks nice, but $100 over the current GWatchR just for a better looking case is not worth it in my opinion.

    1. I don’t think it will be as bad as last time. My god the hype could be felt through the computer screen! I’d be lying if I didn’t get hyped myself ;)

    2. Not only that. But hopefully it launches with Moto Maker, ALL available color and band options. And ADVERTISING.

    3. Just sand the finish off of your current watch and it’ll be identical to the ‘urbane.’

  2. Its still got that stupid black bar on the bottom. No thanks.

    1. You’ve seen it?

    2. People are still making stupid comments. The pic is of the current Moto X.

    3. that is for the 1st gen….there is renders i seen about a month ago and an article saying they do not have the bar at the bottom =) I know how its easy to see these articles pop up, see the picture and make an assumption, no sarcasm there!

  3. I’m done with Moto after the droid turbo debacle.

    1. HTC Thunderbolt… never forget :P

      1. I’m pretty sure the thunderbolt began on froyo, was updated to gingerbread, and later got ICS. The turbo started on kitkat and remains right there.

        1. Your anger is misplaced and should be on Verizon

          1. They are both to blame. They are quick to make promises to boost sales but when push comes to shove they ignore your complaints. Verizon has pushed HTC and Samsung’s updates……

  4. I’m still liking the G watch R. If I wasn’t married and have kids I’d go with the Urbane. Oh well……

    1. glad i’m not the only one who rolls with this thought. my wife would not let me drop that much on the Urbane but it would be my top pick!

    2. Father’s Day is around the corner. I’ve left specific instructions on what they need to get me lol

  5. I’m not losing any sleep over it, but I still want one.

  6. Hockey puck 2. It will be as boring as the first one.

    1. Good chance it will be thinner as new components shrink but I do prefer the near zero bezel compared to other watches. Apple Watch also has large bezel. Next Moto might have strap legs on it to look more like traditional watch.

      1. Strap mounts would be an improvement.

  7. I’m still loving my OG 360 (just got a steel band for it), so it would be tough to justify another $250 for gen 2 right now. If they made it thinner, with significantly better battery life, I might be tempted. It would have to hit the 2 day mark to make a difference though, otherwise I’m just recharging at night like I do now.

  8. Please Moto don’t go matching up the price of iWatch. N6 isn’t selling well due to price, price correctly and this device will be a hot cake. I know you have to make profit but the margin will decide if this device brings in or cost you. I know am talking to there but oh well…………………………………………………………………………………

    1. There’s no such thing as an “iWatch”

      1. Yea smarty there is, just ask if you don’t know.

        1. I think he’s just being a bit of a smart arse because it’s officially called the ‘Apple Watch’. Technicalities aside you’re definitely right, price it well and it will be bought. I was very tempted by the previous 360, and if this one is good upgrade at a good price then I’ll certainly take the plunge!

  9. Yo Phandroid, if you are going to discuss next gen devices and post old gen pics, need to note that.

    1. If they had a good picture of the watch, I’m sure it would have been front and center.

  10. any chance this one will have gps?

  11. Just saying, if the second generation is STILL not going to use standard 22mm bands/pins, then it’s going to be less attractive than LG’s, or Asus’ offerings.
