LG G3’s Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the United States is right around the corner

lg g3 lollipop coming soon

The LG G3 has received Android 5.0 Lollipop in South Korea, but to this point it hasn’t traveled far outside of LG’s home turf (Poland has also received the upgrade). That could be changing soon, though, as the company has taken to Twitter to tease that it’s coming “soon.”

To be specific, the Tweet was sent out by the LG Mobile US Twitter account, which would indicate that they’re speaking directly about variants sold in that particular country (though that doesn’t mean it won’t apply to others). That’s all the information we have to go on for now as LG didn’t leave anything else aside from the tasty image shown above.

From what we know of the LG G3’s Lollipop update it won’t be too exciting. There haven’t been any sweeping changes, so you’re pretty much in-store for what you’ve already become accustomed to with Android 4.4 KitKat. That said it’s always nice to be on the absolute latest version of Android no matter how it looks, so we’re sure there won’t be any complaints from the LG faithful.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. I’ll stick with KK and g3 TweaksBox

    1. I too cannot live without tweaksbox or xposed! Also, I put my phone on “silent” every night and this is something that is apparently lacking in Android 5.0! Not only that, but we’ll see if Verizon manages to screw up the software again to the point where ART still won’t be stable, as it seems to be fine on the other carrier version of the G3!

      1. i got lollipop on my European G3 a few weeks ago, pleased that LG have been able to put a silent mode on it and a direct data on/off toggle in the pull down blind (two things google seemed to overlook in stock lollipop), and the power button has power off, airplane mode and restart as opposed to just power off, so I’m actually pleased to not have the stock experience I previously always craved on my nexus 5!

        1. Nice info! Thanks! Seems LG is fixing the couple of things Google screwed up/overlooked.

          1. Exactly, when I installed lollipop on my N5, it was the first major upgrade where I felt for my uses it was actually worse than what I was coming from. Maybe 5.1, 5.2 will iron out all the creases, but for now the LG version of lollipop suits my daily use better than google’s own.

          2. Thanks for the info. I think I’ll still wait a bit to install it. Probably wait until some nice custom roms come out that aren’t AOSP based (I don’t like crippling my camera) before I move to LP. I may also wait to see what Google does with the notifications in 5.1. I just think they are a total mess. Anyways, glad to see LG fixed a few things, just wish they’d alter their UI a bit.

          3. Oh, and they’ve put a ‘close all’ option on the ‘recent apps’ pop up which again google seemed to think we’d always want to swipe them away one at a time!

  2. Don’t want it. Rooted since day 1 and wouldn’t be able to live without tweaksbox and xposed. No issues with KK.

  3. Hmmmm….I’ve been thinking about using my T-Mobile Jump to upgrade from my G2 to a G3 (the G3 is only $450 at T-Mobile currently). With the lollipop upgrade coming soon I may have to pull the trigger.

    1. I believe the g2 will be receiving the upgrade also this year, I love the g3 but i just played with my friends g2 and its a pretty great phone, I would wait for the g4 if I was holding onto a g2. Lollipop is headed its way.

      1. My G2 is an absolute beast, and same software + version as the G3 on KK. Couldn’t beer happier with it.

  4. Stupid Samsung, LG is about to beat you at updating.

  5. Ya, Samsung is getting pretty lame lately

  6. LG G3 workforce rollover the world .

  7. I’m really excited about this… Finally no more kernel crashes on cm12 from still being on the kit kat modem

  8. Hope it comes to Canada soon! But I don’t wanna loose my xposed ): hope I can root it
