Firefox 34 for Android brings Chromecast tab mirroring

firefox chromecast mirroring

Firefox just got itself a pretty big upgrade that adds a much needed feature for Chromecast users. You can now cast your tab to any Chromecast (or any Cast-equipped device) for use on the big screen.

It might not always be practical to cast a mobile browser tab to a television, but for those odd moments where you need to fling a webpage over to the TV it’s nice to have that functionality available. The option is available from a simple drop down menu, the same menu where you’ll access things such as downloads and add-ons.

There were a few other changes to be had, though most were behind the scene or minor to your average user. Here’s the quick list:

General changes:

  • Added support for Prefer:Safe HTTP header
  • Wikipedia search now uses HTTPS (en-US only)
  • Public key pinning support enabled
  • Redesigned first run experience

HTML5-specific changes:

  • Device Storage API enabled
  • ECMAScript 6 WeakSet
  • JavaScript Template Strings
  • CSS3 Font variants and features control
Unfortunately the release isn’t all roses for those on Android L. While they have fixed the issue of MP4 playback not working for those on Android 5.0 Lollipop, they’re still working on flash and MP3 being broken. We’ll have to wait a while longer for those issues to clear up, but this seems like a tasty enough treat to keep us happy in the interim. Find the download over at Google Play.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. is Mozilla trolling Google cause chrome doesn’t haven this feature yet?

    1. It does though… Only if you have kit Kat I think

      1. It works on my Jelly Bean Galaxy Tab 7.7 as well.

    2. Some of the newer phones will just cast their entire screen, but I wouldn’t blame them for trolling, it’s taking forever for the feature to come out of beta.

  2. I was about to download Mozilla then I remember they chose Yahoo over Google as their default search engine

    1. They have added duck duck go as an option if you want to go that route.
