Samsung Galaxy Alpha leak shows smaller 4.7-inch display, aluminum frame

And here we were thinking the long rumored Samsung Galaxy Alpha would be nothing more than an ultra premium, Samsung Galaxy S5 with a 2K display and aluminum build. Turns out, we may have been wrong in our assumptions.

The folks at SamMobile published a few very clear leaked images of the device. Sure the rumored aluminum frame makes an appearance, but when compared side-by-side against the Samsung Galaxy S5, you’ll notice a much smaller all around size. Said to feature a Galaxy S3-sized 4.7-inch display, this could be more of an iPhone 6 challenger than anything.

According to the tipster, the Galaxy Alpha features 32GB of internal storage and the absence of the usual SD card slot. You’ll also notice Samsung’s trademark faux leather battery cover, only this time with much smaller perforated holes (possibly addressing concerns the Galaxy S5’s looked like a Band-Aid).

Because Samsung already offers a smaller Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini with sub par specs, we’re hoping they’ll go with more higher-performance hardware for the Galaxy Alpha, but nothing has been confirmed at this point.

We expect we’ll learn more about the device as we near it’s rumored August limited release, in the meantime you can check out the leaked pics below.

  1. Aren’t they treading pretty dangerously? Looks like an iPhone sorta

    1. I really can’t see the resemblance.

    2. Looks like an SGS2

    3. yup, the rounded of corners are getting there

  2. I’m all up for choices but Damn, the galaxy brand is more diluted than a jar of cool aid at bday party

    1. Yes thats very painful… after all whenever samsung releases a new galaxy device we all have to turn to ALLAH and pray …….

  3. The edge, if aluminum, still looks like cheap chromed plastic.

  4. This “aluminum” looks SO plasticky, that i am 99% sure this is just some new mid ranger :P

  5. I have said in the past that for me 4.7 is the sweet spot for a phone in which I can operate with one hand..if they were to give this phone same internals as the GS5..I would buy it despite the fact I’ve said I will never buy another Samsung device……

However…the return of the faux leather, lack of memory expansion, and plastic looking aluminum….. I also think this will be a mid-tier device…..

  6. Aluminum with a removable back cover? Interesting.

  7. 1000 samsung phones on the wall, take 1 down, …….999 samsung phones on the wall……

  8. “absence of the usual SD card slot.”

Bzzt. Thanks for playing. Lost my sale… next?

    1. You don’t need the SD card, they make you think you do by giving you the option. Normally you plug in your device to sync your data on an Android the same you do on an Apple device. I know not one single person with multiple SD cards, let alone actively switch them so they can have access to different data. Most people only have one SD card so whats the point in the first place? Once its full you sync it and delete it not buy another SD.

  9. Still waiting for the Note 4 (happily owning a Note 3)……..

  10. Someone tell phinn they are making a phone for his child-like hands

  11. Jeez, still plastic on the back?

  12. If they want it to match with the new iPhone it’ll have mediocre specs.

    1. That’s exactly what I was thinking. They don’t need to put the best display or cpu in a device in order to compete with the iphone.

      1. they will, no way apple are sticking with their old screen resolution when the screen gets bigger also their custom CPUs make their phones perform better than any android handset I’ve seen – and I’ve only ever owned androids cause I like the feature set better

  13. Anyone else notice there are no speakers grills anywhere on the device pictured? And it also looks like Samsung has ran out of ideas and went back to the original GS2 design cues. Would love to see both the old GS2 and this Galaxy Alpha next to each other for comparison.

  14. good, i buy one!

  15. Galaxy S2 Reborn with a plastic back and less bezel.

  16. I like the GS5, but I had to get rid of it. Two phones w/ limited activity (5-7 apps, phone calls separately, or minor email stuff in the background w/ high RAM usage) led to overheating problems. 160 degrees Fahrenheit is excessive without playing the most graphically intense games ever. I hope 3 GB of RAM helps the TW software. The S4 had overheating issues too. I switched to the HTC One M8 and couldn’t mind the switch since both phones are good. Only one was usable to me.

    1. doh! thats a shame, I grabbed one about a week ago, disabled S-voice,my magazine, turned animation scale down and changed launcher, now its very fast and hasn’t run hot on me at all.,

  17. Did any1 notice that there is NO HOLE for SPEAKERS at back,, Is samsung finally gonna move speakers to the bottom or top cause front looks normal

  18. looks like my lovely old GS2 . I just grabbed an S5 but do wish I’d known this was in the pipeline, 4.7 for screen is perfect for my use. looks like it might be the same camera as the S5 which would be a shame, its superb for outdoor shots but Id like a compromise like an 8 or 10MP shooter with larger sensor size so shots in moderate indoor lighting work well.
