Want the Android L soft navigation bar (on-screen buttons) for your device without Android L? You’re in luck… well, so long as you’re rooted and have a properly functioning installation of the Xposed Framework, anyway.

XDA user Prithvee has created a .APK file that will allow you to give your phone a bit of Android L flavor with a few simple clicks. Simply install the .APK file, enable the module inside Xposed Framework, and restart your phone for good measure. Voila — you have what you see above.

Many folks expressed distaste with the newly styled navigation buttons. I personally share that sentiment — I think it looks a bit toyish and takes away from that “grown-up” feel Android has developed. But we all have our own tastes, and if this is right up your alley then be sure to grab it ahead of getting the real deal itself.

  1. This is the one thing I don’t like from the new design.

  2. I really and truly dislike the Fisher Price look of the new nav bar. It will be the first thing I change when the “L” update lands.

  3. Oh? I was welcoming the new design. Though you described it as not being so adult-like. That’s probably why I like it. =.3

  4. I just want the option to NOT get the Navigation Bar in my screenshots. It’s annoying and unnecessary 99% of the time.

    1. Xposed + Gravity Box + Expanded Desktop Mode + Pie Controls = No Nav Bar in Screenshot

      1. Or root + Cyanogenmod/other ROM + Pimp My ROM app + disable navigation bar.

        1. Well, yeah of course a custom ROM would do it, but that’s a bit more work for some.

  5. This was already an option with Softkeyz a day or two after the developer preview was released and you have options on how it looks. Everyone needs to count the number of times on all of the blogs that the words “Playstation-like” are used. I’m waiting for the inevitable Sony copyright infringement lawsuit.

  6. I just have an issue with the back triangle key. I prefer the system keys from the HTC First (I know that phone didn’t have softkeys)

    1. I actually like the look of this. The icons and especially the calendar widget’s font is great.
