Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet breaks cover in new leaks

Sony Xperia Z2 Tabelet leak1

We got our first hands-on look at the original Sony Xperia Tablet Z during last year’s Mobile World Congress, so it’d only make sense that Sony would be planning to show off a followup during this year’s show. The upcoming Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet has broken its cover in a variety of leaks today, showcased on Twitter, first tastefully by @gadgetleaks using large bright red watermarks, then followed by @evleaks with his typical more tasteful watermark.

Just judging from the leaks, it looks like the device will once again be dangerously thin, coming in at 6.4mm. Yikes. Other specs include:

  • 10.1-inch 1920×1200 Triluminos display
  • Snapdragon 800
  • 3GB RAM/16GB internal storage/microSD slot
  • 8MP/2MP cameras
  • 6000mAh battery
  • Android 4.4 KitKat
  • Waterproof

While noting has been made official quite yet, we expect to learn more about the Z2 Tablet — along with the rumored Sony Xperia Z2 (smartphone) — during Mobile World Congress 2014 kicking off next week. How exciting!

Cue the complaints about how this isn’t enough of an upgrade

Or that the bezels are “too big.”

      • Javier Castillejos

Those bezels are “too big” :-P

      • Duong Duc Ngo

I know people hate bezels but having large bezels protect the screen and add ridgeness to the tablet. That is why the Ipad is pretty good.

        • CGS

I think bezel-less phones are fugly. The GS4 for example is much uglier than the GS3. Plus the way I hold my phone when watching Netflix or something, I tend to just *barely* touch the screen quite often, which pauses the video. It would be even worse on a device with no bezels. Although a tablet I guess is different. But still… I think this is a nice tablet, I don’t think the bezels are too huge at all.

You should write an article to clear up all of this bezel nonsense

Or about how 16GB isn’t enough internal storage.

    • Jimbo

Well, it really isn’t. It’s basically the same device with a couple of incremental improvements, but same screen, same battery, same bezels, same low 16 gb of storage for >$400.
Unless KitKat allows moving apps to the SD card, you’ll be running out of storage pretty quickly. 32 gb of internal storage should be a minimum on tablets, especially those intended to be “premium”.

      • lolwut

I agree with you on the internal storage

What improvements do you think should be on the screen? It’s thinner with the same battery life, that’s an improvement. Also, you need bezels to hold the thing.

Do you know my biggest problem with Sony? It’s a tiny little thing that really shouldn’t bother me but it really does. It’s the way the WALKMAN app is in all Caps. I don’t know why, and I know it shouldn’t but that really boils my piss.

Apart from that this looks pretty sweet. I really liked the previous Tablet Z but I was holding out for a new Nexus 10 since it doesn’t look like that is happening I might go for this.

    Need to be under $400.
