Get $25 Google Play Store credit with Nexus 7 (2013) purchase, Chromecast gets free HD movie rental

Nexus 7 Chromecast Holiday promo

The holiday season is nearly upon us and with that, you can expect the usual slew of deals coming out of the woodwork. The Google Play Store is no exception and beginning today, when you purchase a Nexus 7 (all models) Google is throwing in a complimentary $25 Google Play credit. If the Nexus 7 is still too rich for your blood (or maybe everyone you know has been naughty this year), then the even more affordably priced Chromecast gets a special promo as well: free HD movie rental on the house ($6 or less).

As always, there’s some fine print:

  • Google Play Store credit must be added to an account by March 31st, 2014
  • Once added, the credit must be used up by March 31st, 2015
  • Promo codes will be emailed for purchases made online, as soon as they ship
  • If Chromecast is purchased in-store, promo codes will be printed on store receipt
  • Codes can be redeemed at

Also, any hardware purchased from the Google Play Store starting today is returnable up until January 13th, 2014. For those that have just purchased a Nexus 7 (2013) or Chromecast within the last 15 days, you can return it and order another to receive the Google Play credit. Sorry, international friends. This is US and Canada only.

I guess the only question left is if purchased as a gift, will you be keeping the $25 Google Play credit (or $6 movie rental) for yourself, or generously gifting as well? Tis the season.

Why no love for current owners? Ree-dick!

Glad I just bought the Nexus 7 on Sunday…

  • Roemraw

Didn’t get the netflix free month and also not getting this on my chromecast.
Not that bad, but would’ve been nice

  • TheRealBBOX

    C’mon Google, I’ve got a Nexus 7, a Nexus 5, a Chromecast and I’ve previously owned a Galaxy Nexus and a Nexus 4, you can’t show me a little love?

    • Donovan Shore

We here at Google appreciate your loyalty. And I for one would love to have your babies to show our gratitude. ;)

      • TheRealBBOX

Haha, it’s all good, I ain’t even mad to be honest, it’s not like I have any regrets about buying any of the devices, but you can’t blame a guy for wanting some free Google Play credit. :)

        • AndroidProfit

Maybe with the next Nexus 10 they should simply increase the price by $25 and give you $25 in play store credit.

  • WhoaManWtF

Damn, not to be repeatative but as someone that bought 2 nexus 7(2013)s AND a chromecast on launch day I would like to see some love from the googs.

    • Chris Chavez

I’ve done the same. Just purchased another Chromecast about a month ago. I’m not upset, this sorta stuff always happens around the holidays.

      • WhoaManWtF

Yeah I am not upset, just dissapointed. I was originally dissapointed when I realized that my new Nexus 7 didn’t come with credit actually.

  • Emilio Montes

Staples has a 50 dollars coupon code 18702

  • Abstract

Agreed. Bought one for myself and another for family.

Would be nice to get some appreciation as I did with the last nexus 7.

  • Gideon Waxfarb

I would rather get 25% off that honkin’ huge bezel :P

  • guitarist5122

Boo! Can’t even get a movie rental? I’m not one to demand things, but I’m sure giving away free movie rentals is a lot cheaper than giving away $25 gift cards. My chromecast should have come with a movie rental already when I bought it months ago. You know, to encourage Play Movie use.

    • New_Guy777

No, it just came with Netflix subscription, which I’d just as valuable as the gift card!

      • Jason Crumbley

        I didn’t get that either.

  • CGS

I wish Nexus 10 was on sale.

  • AndroidProfit

Jesus! Such entitlement! Give someone an inch and they want a mile.

  • harold

What nothing for the Nexus 5.

  • Humberto Cristobal

Didn’t get my Google movie rental with my chromecast purchase at staples today wtf

    • Jason Crumbley

You didn’t buy it from the Google Play store.

  • Humberto Cristobal

Thanks I realized that after I’m still happy with it

  • Jo Thomas

do i need to buy the nexus from a certain retailer for this promotion?

  • ka1iban

‘S a good deal…except I got my N7 from Amazon for $30 off the Play price
