We imagined Rockstar would someday complete the original PS2 Grand Theft Auto trilogy after bringing Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City to mobile, but we didn’t know how long it would take. Thankfully, we now know that it won’t be long before we’re treated to one of the biggest games in the history of the hobby on our mobile devices.

Rockstar has announced that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will be released next month for a variety of mobile platforms. Android was included in that list, though Rockstar was clear in mentioning that only “select” devices would be able to get in on the fun.

Alongside one of the most compelling collection of stories, characters and settings, Rockstar’s re-release will also feature “newly remastered graphics including dynamic and detailed shadows, greater draw distance, an enriched color palette, plus enhanced character and car models.” Rockstar says it’ll be the best looking rendition of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas yet.

Beyond visual fidelity, the game will also feature touch controls optimized for mobile devices, as well as support for gaming controllers for those who need a more traditional input option. There’s no word on cost just yet, but we imagine Rockstar won’t be asking for a ridiculous amount of your hard-earned money to revisit the classic fictional locales of Los Santos (Los Angeles), San Fierro (San Francisco) and Las Venturas (Las Vegas). Who else is as excited as I am right now?

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. First!!! I Would Like Say….I Been Waiting For This One!!!

  2. I will get this on my Note 2!!!!

  3. oh yah. Getting this no Question. time for a 64gb sd card

    1. It will be only 4gb or less.

    2. What does an SD card have to do with anything? This game will be on my internal. I want no hiccups and lag.

I’m talking as if this is the god of games. LoL!!

      1. because my current 32 gb and internal storage is almost filled. My Note is my gaming device, movie player for my commute and my mp3 player. 32gb just isnt cutting it anymore

  4. This is great news, San Andreas was my favorite GTA game. Looking forward to playing this on my Nexus 7.

    1. the original one?:0

      1. Well I played it on PS2, back in the day

        1. I was just asking about which nexus 7 model

          1. Oh I didn’t get that. I have the nexus 7 2013. Should be ok :)

  5. Glad more games are getting native HID gaming controller support. I love my PS3 dualshock, but manually setting up sixaxis profiles is a PITA.

  6. If this comes to the nvidia shield I will be so happy

  7. Do you guys think the original nexus 7 will get this

    1. Yes. It came out last year. If it doesn’t, it gives me a reason to upgrade from last year’s model to this years.

  8. I love this. I already purchased the first two..now can have entire collection..what device would be best to play this on tv screen? game stick?

    1. Seriously!? Root, SixAxis, and a random PS3 controller. It’ll be just like the old times.

      1. Ummm okay….any other options that DO NOT require my phone..thanx guys

        1. Um…? The game is coming out for mobile devices. You can get the Nexus 7 (2013). That has TV out capabilities. If you truly don’t want to use a mobile device, then “A PS2” has already been answered for you.

I’m just saying your phone because it’s coming out for “select” devices. I’m assuming you have a popular (in the US) phone.

  9. OH HELL YEAH HELL HELL YEAH

  10. I really hope this works on the old Nexus 7.

    1. Same! I mean I don’t know why it wouldnt! My Nexus 7 2012 still ranks is the top in quadrant standard… it is faster than the HTC One X and that device is perfectly capable of hardcore gaming so I can’t think of a reason our nexus 7 shouldn’t get the game

  11. I don’t want apple paying rockstar to delay this again like they did with ifruit.

    1. The ifruit app is trash anyway just like GTA V

  12. Oh this is a must buy

  13. YES!! The ultimate time-passer!! I new this day would come!! I have been patiently waiting.

This is why I’m glad December is my birthday month. All the goodies come out during the holidays. =.D

Let me just throw them $10 aside. I need to make sure I can get this the day it comes out.

  14. Oh yeaaaa… Playing this on my G2 when its released

  15. “All we had to do, was follow the damn train CJ!”

  16. A thought does occur though; how big will it be size wise? Vice City alone was close to 2GB and that’s for just ONE city. SA was massive and had a huge amount of missions and other bits.

  17. Hopefully galaxy s3 is one of the “select” devices

  18. Grand Theft Auto on a mobile device sounds like an ergonomic nightmare. I’d rather they just make an updated HD edition for PC and consoles.
