Verizon Moto X soak test update starts rolling out

verizon moto x update

We’d heard Verizon users were being invited to a soak test for a new Motorola X upgrade, and now that test is rolling out to those who have decided to participate. We’re looking at version 159.15.1.en.US, which will bring about the following changes:

  • Improved photos (color accuracy, exposure, focus speed)
  • Increased accuracy of Touchless Controls
  • Fixed choppy audio issue during voice calls
  • Fixed issue with Motorola Assist improperly reading out texts
  • Improved Motorola Migrate Experience
  • Added 30-day expiration date for 50GB Google Drive offer
  • Fixed an issue that could sometimes prevent a lost phone from reporting its location to the Moto Care Lost Device Finder service

We’re not sure how big this update clocks in at, but it’s always a good idea to get onto a WiFi connection and charge your battery to 30-50% to make sure things go smoothly. If you’re not in the soak test, don’t worry — Motorola usually starts pushing these things out to the rest of the herd just days later. Let us know if you were able to pull the update down, and if any of the above fixes have improved the overall experience for you!

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. I would post an itshappening.gif but, getting a bugfix on Android 4.2.2 while my Nexus 7 has Android 4.3 and will have Android 4.4 very soon, this update saddens me… but hey, better camera!

  2. Wonder if they need to go through a whole new round of testing for the Droid family? They all have the same processor and camera as Moto X and Punit Soni of Motorola posted on Google plus that “all new releases” would be getting this update. Maybe by next year?

  3. Since the new Droids are essentially identical (other than some Kevlar and bloatware), when can we expect this update to filter to the Maxx?

    I’m going to say Q2 ’14………

    1. Wouldn’t hold your breath waiting. VZW will most certainly take their damn sweet time.

  4. I sure hope they bring this update to the maxx soon.

  5. Why do they call it a soak test? are they going to soak this inside a cup of water and see if its waterproof? Seriously though…….. why call it a soak test?

  6. I used pwnmymoto for root and ROM Toolbox Lite to remove the all the verizon bloatware, some of the Moto Bloatware — I read somewhere that this will keep me from getting the update? which, having used pwnmymoto, may be a good thing for the time being?
