nexus 4 android 4-3 system dump

Ah, yes — there’s nothing quite like waking up to the system dump of a new version of Android that has yet to be officially announced or released. Late last night, a man by the name of Jeff Williams on Google+ revealed that he bought a Nexus 4 from Craigslist, and was a bit confused to find that it was running Android 4.3. People were initially skeptical, of course, as build.prop files are easily altered to show fake version numbers, but the community noticed that there were legit updates to the device’s radio and Linux kernel.

Google+ user Jason Newman and a whole community of tinkerers banded together to help Williams obtain the system dump from the phone. The group was up for hours through the late night and early morning, getting Williams up to speed on how to do a system dump and deliver other files the community could use. Then, it all came to fruition. The dump allowed XDA user GMillz to create a flashable .zip file for anyone with a rooted Nexus 4 to apply in ClockworkMod Recovery, and that’s where we stand right now.

We’re still waiting on the bootloader and radios from the latest build of Android, though with the straight forward instructions provided by XDA user efrant it shouldn’t be long before those items are available. If you want to take a chance and flash this thing before the radios are available you can grab the download here.

Remember that your device is your own responsibility, and while the ROM may work with the older radio you might still run into some issues. Give it a try, if you dare. We’ll be updating this post once more information about the rest of the dump becomes available.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. so what’s new in 4.3? I keep hearing the version tossed around but Idk what’s different besides better Bluetooth support and an updated Linux kernel

    1. Updated camera UI….

      1. Thank goodness. I hate jellybean’s camera. I hope it’s better…

        1. It’s nothing too different. The apk is available out there.

          1. Crap. I hate the unfixed buttons. Its such a pain in the butt to use the floating buttons (or whatever you want to call them) imho.

          2. Yeah, I think it’s the worst implementation of camera controls ever. So unuser friendly.

          3. I’m probably the only person who doesn’t mind 4.2’s camera UI, lol. Then again, I don’t use my camera too often. Maybe like 5 times a month.

        2. 4.3 is still Jellybean…

          1. Indeed it is.

    2. If the ONLY thing this update contains is a fixed Bluetooth with AVRCP 1.3 I’ll be happy. Everything else is icing on the cake, including the camera I have already (which is much better than 4.2 IMO).

      1. clemson77on? im from clemson, did u go to school there?

  2. now if we can find a Nexus 7 2 on there, we will be set.

    1. You’ll find it within 10 minutes of release or after about a month. lol *bracing for 3rd major google launch fail*

  3. I love a good system dump first thing in the morning….

    1. make sure you wipe your cache real good! lol!

I think it’s more likely this is
not Android 4.3 and that someone simply sold an AOSP ROM’d phone and set
the version number as 4.3 for fun.

    2. Win to the both of you.

  4. wait for new radios? i’d rather keep my LTE.

  5. I don’t see anything significant in 4.3

  6. I wonder how the guy who sold the Nexus acquire Android 4.3?

    1. Google totally doesn’t have developers or anything…

  7. I heard 4.3 gets Apple maps instead of google maps…

  8. I think it’s more likely this is not Android 4.3 and that someone simply sold an AOSP ROM’d phone and set the version number as 4.3 for fun.

  9. does anyone know if older radios will work with this version? if not then I’ll be staying in 4.2.2

  10. Anyone know if it’s got Bluetooth 4 LE support?

  11. When do we xperience these regular update to our
gnote 2 and hTc One?!? Sad! !!

  12. It doesn’t even boot!

  13. Pfffff We’ve had 4.3 on the galaxy s4 for a while now :)

  14. What a strange thing?
