Sony fans looking for a new smartphone have an interesting option to consider. It’s the Sony Xperia SP, and it’s now available for pre-order over at Sony’s website. Being let go for an unlocked price of just $489, the device features a 4.6-inch 720p HD display, a 1.7GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, an 8 megapixel Exmor HD camera, 8GB of internal storage, NFC, Bluetooth 4.o, a 2,300mAh battery, LTE and more. Of course, only those on GSM carriers are going to be interested in this one so if you’re with AT&T or T-Mobile and want to consider it as your next smartphone be sure to check it out at Sony’s site. The phone is scheduled to ship May 20th, and you know we’ll be checking back to see if that date moves around.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. The HSPA+ and LTE frequencies listed seem to be wrong.

    AT&T: HSPA+ only, no LTE
    T-Mobile: No HSPA+, LTE only

    @_@?

    1. T-Mobile has 1900 HSPA+ and AT&T has band 4 LTE or AWS.

      For this phone, UMTS HSPA+ 850, 900, 1900, 2100, MHzGSM/GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHzLTE Band I, Band II, Band IV and Band V

      1. T-Mobile has some 1900 HSPA+ but not nation-wide yet. Only if your area has been refarmed.

        1. True, only in about 49 cities so far.

          1. To be fair, it covers a ton of the population. Unfortunately the nearest refarmed area for me is 3 hours either north or south; I’m exactly half way between St. Louis and Chicago.

          2. Yeah, somewhere around 150 million people? I’m in Seattle but the building penetration isn’t that great and I’m on the first floor of an apartment.

  2. Could someone please let Sony know that more than half of the US is on CDMA network? kthxbai

  3. CPU/ Processor : 1.7 GHz Qualcomm MSM8960 Pro Dual Core*** Not a quad core

  4. Interesting phone though, I might have considered it had it not been for the HTC One. Only 8gb of internal storage is hard to stomach though even with the inclusion of a micro sd slot.

  5. The Sony store says MSM8960 Pro (I assume MSM8960T) dual core, basically the same as US SGS3, One S, One X, etc. Also the radio bands exclude AWS so if you don’t live in an area where T-Mobile has refarmed their PCS spectrum, no 3G on their network. Looks like a nice, relatively cheap LTE phone for AT&T. If you can do without LTE, a Nexus 4 might be a better option tho.
