T-Mobile and Virgin Mobile Galaxy S2 get Jelly Bean

15

A couple of more Galaxy S2 variants are getting Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, folks. The lucky customers of T-Mobile and Virgin Mobile will be happy to know that Samsung’s 2011 flagship is getting upgraded to one of the most modern versions of Android there is at the moment. It’s not often a two-year old smartphone gets this kind of loving so a round of applause for Samsung is definitely in order. There are a few different routes to go depending on who you’re with and what you want to do:

Virgin Mobile customers can get the upgrade through Samsung Kies for Mac and Windows, or the Simple Update Tool which is only for Windows users. You can find more information on the tools by clicking through. As for those on T-Mobile, your only option is Kies so be sure to download it and get started at your earliest convenience.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

    1. Are you sure its gingerbread and not just the way Touchwiz looks?

      1. 2.3.6 I think it’s GB. ICS was an optional update as well on the Tmo GS2. He never updated it before.

  3. Nope, still showing that its on the current firmware :(

    1. Wait. What carrier are you on? If you’re on Tmo, you HAVE to use Kies to update it since it’s an optional update.

      1. Nope, Virgin media ( UK ) and its not showing up on KIES or OTA

  4. nothing for one s

    i hate u htc

  5. Wow, good stuff Sammy! Keep those updates rolling out. Sammy has been doing very well in keeping older devices up to date. I will stay on the Sammy boat until we hit a MASSIVE iceberg, which seems to be no where in sight.

    1. That’s exactly what they thought about the Titanic.

  6. Yet all the people on CSpire Wireless are stuck on Gingerbread. This sucks for the unlucky people in the South on CSpire Wireless. CSpire Wireless tells me it’s not them it’s Samsung and they did not get an update to ICS. Common if Virgin Mobile can get JB you would think for sure we could at least get ICS on CSpire Wireless??? Good thing i carry a Nexus 4 in the other pocket.

  7. just updated the wife’s phone. looks neat. brings it to 4.1.2 from 4.1.1

  8. after just getting my replacement phone back from a previois bricked root job. I can finally enjoy some jelly beans and google now legitimately.

  9. Hey HTC: How about some love for the HTC Amaze, which is also a T-Mobile phone with similar specs to the Galaxy S2. HTC, you are losing me.

  10. Anyone having an issue where phone connects to Kies but the Current Firmware is blank? Started after that damn ICS update…
