Samsung wants to sell 500 million mobile phones in 2013

33

Samsung has big plans for their mobile business in 2013, and they all start with their flagship Galaxy S4. The company is hoping the new handset can help to drive overall mobile sales to a record high 500 million units this year. The number, while setting the mark quite high, is not totally outside the realm of what Samsung is capable of.

Last year the Korean mobile maker pushed just a hair under 400 million handsets. While the additional million the company hopes to move in 2013 is nothing to scoff at, rising brand awareness and offerings like the GS4 and upcoming Galaxy Note 3 certainly give them a good shot. It would be an unprecedented showing for any OEM, but for Samsung it would solidify their position as the king of mobile.

Your math is a little off. Yet I get downvoted to hell every time I tell you guys to get an editor.

    1. Well if you get down voted its because you are being a douche, obviously it was a mistake and we all know what the author meant to say. Do you think you might get some sort of internet award for correcting other people’s minor mistakes?

      1. This is supposed to be a journalism site. A little bit of professionalism is to be expected. You never see things like this at Android Police or The Verge.

        1. You were bullied as a kid weren’t you

          3. hahahah! Well played blue, well played.

          4. You’re his grandma? :)

          5. I wish! I’d bully him evvvvvery dayyyyyyy!

    2. It’s just some zeros.

      1. The author wrote out ‘One Million’ instead of ‘One Hundred Million’. He didn’t just miss a couple of zeros.

        1. I was fully aware of that. My comment was not meant serious.
          1,000,000 = 6 zeros
          100,000,000 = 8 zeros
          Difference = 2 zeros
          (;-)

        2. Anyone with at least half a brain knew that already. Why do you have to be so anal about it? You were definitely bullied as a kid for sure.

          1. by the handicapped kid down the street.

      2. That’s what my work told me at bonus time… ^_^

    3. “Yet I get downvoted to hell every time I tell you guys to get an editor.”

This isn’t a popularity contest. You aren’t posting to get upvotes. You are posting to correct an error. By rights, the author should correct the error and remove your post as it then becomes irrelevant.

How it gets “voted” shouldn’t matter to anyone in the least. The fact you seem concerned about it leads folks to the assumption you’re trying to get “kudos” for being a “grammar nazi”. I assume you’ve been around the internet a time or two…how well has that ever worked…for anyone?

      1. You’re right. I should go back and change the word downvoted to flamed. I don’t care at all about the votes, but no one is ever willing to acknowledge that this site could benefit from a little bit of quality control. These mistakes are pretty consistent, and when I point them out everyone seems to just get mad.

        1. It seems to me that the only responses to your post that were critical (perhaps overly so) were those responding to your issue with being down-voted. The only other comment was a simple reference to “zeros” that could easily have been taken as a joke.

Any flaming here appears to be self-inflicted.

          2. That was completely unnecessary…

          3. Was it?
            Was it really?

    4. Stop trying to green text. We aren’t on 4chan.

      1. Well, as far as I know there isn’t any other way to quote.

  2. If they just got VZW to announce when they will be selling the damn S4, thatd help their sales greatly

  3. I don’t see it happening. Not enough compelling reasons for people to bump from the S3 to the S4.

    1. But a lot of people will jump from the S2 to the S4. Samsung is over taking Apple and Samsung is serious in this industry now so they’ll have dedicated users who will get sucked into the Android ecosystem. It was bound to happen.

  4. the phones are so similar that some people think that their gs3s are already the s4….I asked this Lady if that was the gs3 and she said it was the s4… when it clearly was the s3. a guy at the tmobile store said why is Samsung releasing the same phone and naming it the 4?

  5. they might i dont doubt it…they have me purchasing the S4 & note 3 this year

  6. not sure of this will happen, the s3 was the phone to get in Q1 2012. but this year there are better and nicer looking offerings (which is important to most people). Samsung will be selling many phones this year and they will most likely stay on top, but I have my doubt that they will have such an easy game this year. HTC One and Motorola X are strong competitors, where last year the S3 was much more ahead of the competition than the S4 is this year.

  7. Let the crying and suing of Apple begin

  8. Meant to say by Apple
