Sega’s Puzzle Pirates coming to Android tablets

Sega has announced that one of its “MMO” puzzle games is coming to the big screen, and by big screen I mean Android tablets, of course. It’s Puzzle Pirates, the game that lets you customize your own buccaneer and roam around the high seas for treasure, facing the dangers of the waters and other pirate crews on your way.

The game will feature over 20 interactive puzzles — it has that word in its title, after all — which allow you to do “piratey” things like partaking in sword fight battles or teaming up with hundreds of other crew members to conquer an island.

Alongside the familiar gameplay, the game’s controls have been updated and optimized for use on tablets. You can play the free-to-play game right now via Facebook, if you want, so head to Sega’s site to give it a try. If you like it, be sure to look out for the tablet release later this year. Read on for full press details.

SEGA® Europe Ltd. and SEGA® of America today announced that fan-favourite Puzzle Pirates™ will be coming soon to the iPad® and sailing onto additional tablet devices in the Spring and Summer of 2013. Offering a shared play experience, the new tablet version will feature full cross-platform play with the current service now available for PC, Linux, and Mac players at (www.puzzlepirates.com)..

Three Rings, Sega’s San Francisco-based free-to-play studio, is refreshing and improving Puzzle Pirate’s award-winning multiplayer experience specifically for the tablet, bringing every aspect of the vast open-ended pirate world to touch control.

In Puzzle Pirates, players customize their own buccaneer, travel the ocean from island to island, and earn their keep on the high seas, competing and cooperating in a fully-realised pirate economy. The Puzzle Pirates world  features over 20 interactive solo and multiplayer puzzles through which players can show off their skills, including puzzles for sword fighting, hauling treasure, and the prized skills needed to sail a pirate ship.

Puzzle Pirates will boast one of the deepest MMO gameplay experiences available on mobile, with ships crewed by pirates working together cooperatively in real time to earn their fortune. While out adventuring, players can face attack from roaming brigands, hunt for treasure, or even make plans to conquer their very own island by coordinating with hundreds of crewmates. Puzzle Pirates provides entertainment for players of all ages, from simple puzzling fun all the way to the complexities of enormous ship to ship battles. In addition, the game has a rich and complex player-driven economy.

Featuring an updated user interface with optimised touch screen controls, it’s never been easier to join a large and active community of people who eat, play and even talk like pirates, Yar!  Players just gaining their sea legs will revel in a rich, deep and varied world that is ready for exploration.
