It’s Nexus Eve! Crack open the Play Store and get your index fingers ready

68

Here we are on the eve of the Nexus 4 and 10 and I must admit, I’m feelin’ a lot like a kid on Christmas Eve. What is sure to be a frenzy of Android and tech enthusiasts across the country making a mad dash to the Google Play Store, I hope you’re all ready. Google announced that both devices would be hitting the Play Store on Tuesday, November 13th, and while we don’t have an exact time Google will open the floodgates, we have plenty of good reasons to believe it will launch at midnight tonight (pacific time).

First, Google is based in San Francisco here on the the west coast, and if they’re going by Apple’s typical release schedule (which hasn’t seemed to garner too many complaints) it only seems logical that the the N4 and N10 will arrive as soon as the clock strikes midnight. Because the the Nexuses will be launching globally, it seems the other parts of the world will have to wait until the later part of Tuesday — which is still November 13th for them. They’ll just need to wait for the rest of the world to catch up. You also might want to take into account a German Googler who said to expect the device sometime during the “breakfast” hours (for Germany) which — depending on when you crack open your Kellogg’s Frosties — could very well mean 12AM PT, 3AM ET.

Of course, without an official word from the mother ship, the exact time is anyone’s guess. We expect the Nexus 4 to sell out within minutes of going live in the Play Store (the Nexus 10… not so much), so if you really had your heart set on being one of the first to get your hands on one, depending on where you live, you might have a long night ahead of you. I have my browser auto-refreshing the page for the 16GB version and as soon as it goes live, you guys will be the first to know.

All that being said, when do you guys think the Nexus 4 and 10 will go live in the Play Store? Anyone staying up late to make sure they’re not left out in the cold?

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  1. It’s times like this (and election night coverage) when I’m exceedingly happy I’m on the West Coast. Get to get all my toys and have 7 hours of sleep :D

  2. We’re counting on you Chris, to post it on Twitter as soon as it happens. Who am I kidding, I also have the page on auto-refresh

    1. Every man for himself. O_o

  3. Nexus 10 vs Note 10.1? (besides the screens and the specs and the aahhh nevermind) Nexus still wins

    1. yeah.. love no SD slot.

  4. Um… A 16GB phone? Don’t think so. I’ll wait for a 32GB version. I plan on going to Tmo, so I don’t need LTE, but I do need app storage. LoL!! These apps are gargantuan now and days.

  5. Its already the 13th here in Australia… but I can still not buy. Seriously Google stop making me wait and take my money!!!!

    1. Someone just tipped us that it’s been made available in Australia… Can you check again?

      1. yup…done and dusted. Where’s that postman damit!

  6. I will be up at waiting at my computer to order my Nexus 4. On a side note, as much as I don’t want to put anything on such a gorgeous device, I hope the bumper shows up at the same time.

    1. Just went live! Well, to be notified. :p

  7. when does 4.2 come out for gnex

    1. Not too long after it’s available on the Nexus 4

      1. Will the N4 come with the lockscreen widgets? I heard that’s a separate OTA update; but not sure if the phones will ship with that.

        1. The OTA rolled out tonight for the review units that were sent out. I’m sure there will be an update available out of the box enabling it for the first batches sold.

      2. thanks Chris!

Hi – here’s an important lesson for anyone interested in purchasing one
of the new Nexus device. 4 The Nexus smartphone, the new Nexus Tablet 7
and 10 Nexus Tablet may know, starting tomorrow (Tuesday, 13 November
2012) on Google Play purchased in Germany. I look forward to just as
many of you :-) As I learned today, the ordering is, however, only on
Tuesday released afternoon / early evening. So it makes no sense today
to persevere at midnight in front of computer to buy a Nexus device. I
like to keep you informed as soon as I get new information. UPDATE : we
pass and so the devices can now but tomorrow morning (breakfast time)
    purchased through Google Play.

From what people have gathered 3am eastern is somewhere around breakfast time in Germany thus making it likely that will be the time. The above post was translated with Google translate so that would be why it looks like broken English. Good luck everyone

    1. who cares about Germany.

      1. Germans.
        But nobody cares about you.

        1. Well played.

  9. I take that all back… now where is the postman?

  10. It suddenly hit me. While this is Google’s 4th nexus phone, they probably called it the N4 to compete with Apple. People will still probably think the iphone 5 is better just because 5 is better than 4 apparently.

    1. Or not

      1. Was just a theory

    2. Hmmm…

    3. They would have called it the Nexus 6 if that were the case, no?

    4. It’s also 4+ inches in size. Double meaning omgz!!!

    5. Some of you may laugh, but people really do think like this. That’s why you have names like “Xbox 360” or “DECT 6.0”.

    6. Will golfers think the 4 is better than 5?

  11. Ok, why the bloody hell isn’t there any news on the Nexus 7 3G? All i keep hearing is the Nexus 10 and Nexus 4. Please, for the love of cheese and tangerines, anyone have any info on the Nexus 7 3G launching?
Guess i can temper my rage and just wait till the 13th and see for myself..

  12. My phone supports LTE.

    1. My phone will have 4.2 real real soon.

      1. LTE>4.2 sorry to disappoint

        1. Uh, you must be on AT&T. TMO is faster than any LTE phone I have seen.

        2. Well, I’m usually on wi-fi most of the time and have always been on t-mobile. T-mobile speeds are fast enough for me to stream youtube videos and view webpages instantly. I do have a minor gripe with storage but I can stream everything rather quickly. I don’t have much to cry about.

      2. I have a rooted VZW GNex. I will have the best of both worlds soon. #winning

PS: oh, and I have unlimited data, too.

        1. The GNex’s hardware is way too outdated. It was already outdated when it hit the market. Wow, all the sacrifices just for LTE….

          1. Really, my only gripe about the Galaxy Nexus is its battery life. Performance-wise, I haven’t seen any need for anything greater.

        2. I don’t need to pay Verizon ever again after this phone. #winning

      3. I expect my Galaxy Nexus to have 4.2 pretty soon also. Unofficially, of course. ;)

    2. I’m not someone who only looks at what something’s short comings are and looks at what it has going for it. You want to troll try harder next time.

      1. The way I see it, as far as phones go, what matters first and foremost is coverage and connection speed. Everything else comes second.

        1. The way I see it, a phone is barely a phone anymore to me. I never talk on mine, I text a bit, but a phone is mostly a mini tablet to me.

          1. I rarely talk or text. I have the 450 minute plan from Verizon (I wish it could be less), pay-per-text, and unlimited data. But my earlier statement still applies. The fanciest phone on the market is only as good as its data connection.

  13. OK, The Nexus 4 is NOW on sale…in Australia according to users on XDA (and they have receipt emails to prove it)

    1. Oh snap! Got the post up! :D

      1. I wasn’t going to buy this phone on release, but I just got off a 12 hour shift went to the bar now I am drunk! hello Nexus 4!!1!!!1 yu lookin goooood!!

        1. Lol…I’ve heard of drunk dialing, but drunk Nexus-ing? O.o

          1. Those Sam Adams Winter lagers x4 do a good job of persuading you want you really want lol.

    2. Yes.. post those email contents to see the evidence… :) ..!!

      1. Trust me it’s there, the XDA forums are moving too fast now, lol. Looks like Chris has the article up though:)

        1. oh god, it really is going to be a Nexus 7 replay. The shipment thread… lol

  14. I plan on ordering a Nexus 10, and personally I’m staying up until midnight local time (I’m in Central) and then if it’s not available I’ll set an alarm to wake myself up at 2am (midnight PST). If it’s still not available then I’ll fly downstairs when I get up in the morning and hope it’s available then. I know the Nexus 10 isn’t predicted to sell out as quick, but I still don’t want to take my chances :)

  15. No LTE means no Nexus 4 for me. Now that Nexus 10 looks sexy, I miss my tab.

    1. yeah because you can’t buy a nexus Phone already.. turd.

      1. Are you retarded? I said Nexus 4. I own an LTE enabled Galaxy Nexus. I’m well aware of the differences.

  16. UK play store lists N4 as COMING SOON & is priced at a STAGGERING (for UK prices) £239 – there is a ‘NOTIFY ME’ email option available also. The only thing that makes it a no go is the useless 8gig storage – completely useless !

  17. Oh there is a 16 gig version ! didn’t realize that ! £279

  18. Hmm what to do while we wait…. hmmm..

  19. I am a Google fanatic but I don’t see this release as being to exciting. I really can’t see a ton of people jumping on board to buy that LG.

    1. as Malik said earlier – go see the XDA thread it flying ! This phone [16 gig] gives people such as myself options – my contract is up for renewal in Jan – my concern is that I don’t pass a new credit check – all phones are free in UK on contract but without are £400+ for top end phones which I cannot afford cos I don’t work [sickness problems] so this gives me an affordable top end phone for what is UK price £239 – £279 [VERY cheap] which I can afford with help at xmas and some saving.

Then I will have phone contract free meaning it will be a bonus if I do pass credit check as I can get phone and sell it or wait to get another beut !

  20. Nexus eve has a nice ring to it. Is it official Google terminology? If not it should be the basis of an awesome ad campaign

  21. Any word on whether or not Eastern Time Zone saw a midnight launch? That would tell us whether we’re looking at local time midnight or PST, if it even is midnight

    1. What if its depending on our area?

      1. That’s what I meant, but according to xda East Coast doesn’t have the option to order yet, so I’m guessing it’s either going to be midnight PST or sometime early morning. Which means I’m off to bed and will get myself up at 2 am! See you all then!

    2. It’ll be midnight on the west coast, so 3am for us.

  22. AHHHHHHH

  23. getting sleepy… must make it to midnight western time…
