Personalized app recommendations come to the Google Play Store

8

App discovery has long been an area of interest in the world of mobile apps, and it looks like Google is looking to make it even better in the Google Play Store. Google started doing a bit of personal app recommendations a while ago on the web version of the Google Play Store, and that functionality has finally come to the Play Store app on devices.

While we can’t be too sure of its algorithm, we imagine Google uses things like the apps you search for, download, and install to find similar apps that might interest you.

You can even let Google know if something doesn’t interest you in order to further tailor the Play Store’s suggestions. If you’re interested in seeing what Google has recommended for you be sure to find the new section under Apps > Featured. [thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Let them first add a few features that are soooo obvious to be there, but just aren’t.

A feature to multi select apps that you want to install

A feature to hide the apps that already have been installed

Sort apps to paid vs free

It is really rediculous that everytime you install apps, you have to scroll through the entire list. Then if you install one, and then you have to scroll all the way back. It is anoying and I really don’t understand why google has not built in these features by now….

    1. the main thing I want is to be able to clear my history of installed apps; or at least allow me to filter my history by date/name, etc. It has gotten so long, it is now usesless. Making it impossible to find an old app that I want to reinstall.

  2. Personalized recommendations. Great. Those never, ever work. They usually suggest stuff I’d never in a million years use, watch, read or listen to. Wish companies would stop doing it. It just makes me realize how clueless these companies really are.

      1. Lol nice

    1. I know what you mean. Does my head in on Amazon that because I looked at 1 thing I now get tons of recommendations just slightly related to it to the point where it drowns out recommendarions related to things I’ve looked up lots of times which are far more useful.

  3. I want a feature that lets me mark the apps I would like to download later like after it exits beta or after a few updates the fix bugs. I don’t know why they haven’t added this yet.

  4. they only recomend me apps i already uninstall =(
