Nexus 7 ads more “effective” than Apple Genius ads, says study

33

Athletes from around the world aren’t the only people locking horns at the Olympics. Google’s advert for the Nexus 7 (the father and son camping ad) and Apple’s series of commercials revolving around their “Geniuses” have been taking significant amount of TV time. And according to an advertisements analytics company Ace Matrix, the Nexus 7 ad has been far more effective.

The Nexus commercial scored 662 out of a possible 950 points, while only one of the three Genius ads scored in the upper half of the effectiveness scale. Having seen all the advertisements, it’s hardly surprising. The Nexus ad is similar to what we’ve become used to from Google: combining emotions brilliantly with a product’s features. Apple’s commercials on the other hand seem to say that the Mac is tough to use, so just to be safe we’ll make sure to have a lot of Geniuses around.

  1. Macs are tough to use….. but I thought they were just supposed to work?!? ;P At least that was my first thought I had when I saw the “genius” ads. My other thought was that if they announced that all devices had to be shut off, why were they still trying to mess around with the one guy’s presentation AND thought they would have time to go help someone else?!? Reality distortion field is alive and well at Apple I guess.

    1. WTH, what does the Kindle Fire have to do with any of this?

  2. Lets see what happens when they compare apple to apples. Like a Nexus 7 ad to a iPad ad. Overall I think this is a pretty useless comparison.

  3. apple products are lame…

  4. If I were a Mac user, I’d be offended by those ads because it makes it sound like Mac users are stupid. Now I’m not going to speculate if that’s true, but it sure makes it sound that way to me.

    1. Mac users are too foolish to know when an ad is making fun of them. They think apple is good.

    2. But but we don’t want to conceal the truth.

      1. LOL! Making it hard to stay diplomatic. ;)

    3. I thought the same thing actually lol but like everyone said they don’t really get that.

    4. isn’t that how it always goes? every updates comes with a whole new bundle of updates and features. features and updates that would make an ever growing OS more and more complex. then again, mac users can be stupid to be begin with……

    5. Well, the majority of Mac users are sheep, and sheep are stupid. Sheep just follow the leader, who in this case is Steve Jobs. But there are a few Mac users that actually use the OS to it’s full potential.

  5. I love Google commercials especially that one with the banana demonstrating sharing between devices, they should have that on TV its unique

  6. Fanboy article, yawn

    1. the website is called Phandroid lol? its like going to Cultofmac and expecting them to say something decent about Android

      1. I dont expect anything decent, but this article is just terrible, and I love android

    2. Fanboy article? It’s not Androids fault that Apples ads scored badly. I fail to see connection, butthurt reply? Yawn? :D

      1. You idiot, do you even know what Apple’s ads are about here? They are about Macs. The comparison isn’t stupid, the glorifying Android fanboy comments are. Get your head in the right direction, the comparison here is Mac vs Android. Sounds fair to you? An iPad vs Nexus 7 comparison would be much fair.

PS: I own an Android device, but I’m allergic to stupidity and retarded comments.

        1. I think the point was that Apple’s ads used to once be inspiring and attention getting (even if the Mac vs. PC ads were at times misleading), but have now slipped a good deal.

I agree with the comments about how the ads make it seem like Mac users are “dumb”. One makes it seem like they’re too dumb to put together a simple presentation. Another makes it seem like they’re easily duped by random salemen. And the final one makes it seem that they’d rather care about putting picture cards together than a wife in labor.

I understand that the commercials are in jest, but this is the image Apple is putting across for their Mac users.

          1. The depiction of Mac users foolishness was correct.

        2. Yes! Couldnt have said it better myself

        3. I think you’re the idiot here actually. I read key notes, Apple ads didn’t score well, Google ad did. I don’t believe subject matter played an influence here. Remove head from ass sir.

  7. I guess its just me but I like, or don’t mind, all of them. The Nexus one is odd though in that its basically saying “look at all this cool stuff it can do… right outside your house”. The comment about apples to apples is a very valid as well, with these commercials targeting two different markets.

  8. I’m surprised the Apple genius ads scored as high as they did. I half expected someone to come by with a Samsung laptop at the end of them and do it rather easily and for the Mac user to say “Oh man I’ve been Samsunged”.

    1. you should probably email samsung…. this would be the perfect idea.

  9. Blah blah blah….come back when you sell 17 millions Nexus 7’s in 3 months….

    1. Yes, because quantity equals quality.

      1. Right and the Nexus 7 is such a quality tablet (no rear camera, cheap build, no 4G connectivity option)…..

        1. You forgot over 60% cheaper too

          1. POS outta be 100% cheaper…..

  10. If the author actually did some research, he would realize that it’s Ace Metrix and not Matrix. Yet another example of blindly posting an article after reading about it somewhere. Makes me want to point fingers and laugh at you. Here’s the link for all you low life losers:

  11. google better watch it, they will get sued by apple, apple now patent ads

    1. Please stop. The Apple has patent’s for _____ is so old already…..
