EA and Firemonkeys Announce Real Racing 3 – Most Impressive Mobile Graphics To Date?

32

Before you take one step further, watch the above video and tell me that isn’t “console-quality” graphics. Once you’ve picked your jaw up off the ground, let’s talk about the game. Announced today at EA Summer Showcase 2012, Australian mobile studio Firemonkeys, is getting ready to launch the newest iteration of their “Real Racing” franchise with Real Racing 3 for mobile devices.

While the trailer only shows Porches, you can expect more real-world cars from manufacturers like Audi and Dodge to make the cut — and for the first time in the series — players will cruise along real race tracks like Laguna Seca and Mazda Raceway. Hot diggity dogs. Mobile gaming is about to get a whole lot more interesting. Real Racing 3 is due out towards the end of this year and we’ll let you know as soon as it hits the Play Store.

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  1. Looks good. Im hoping more for a one time purchase fee, rather than the in app purchasing system that a lot of devs are adopting as of late. Id rather try and race, win money to unlock the cars i want rather than pay for extras.

  2. xbox360 quality back when it released in 05, definitely not on par with ps3.

    1. That’s simply stupid.

    2. still in less then a year we went from games like angry birds to this, which is like super fast, its sorta like getting a n64 and then a year later upgrading to a ps3, just skip all the middle consoles

  3. But how do you know that isn’t just the cinematic/intro portion and not in-game graphics?

    1. Not pre-rendered. Developer says it’s all in-game footage (see video) :D

  4. Looks promising, but I hope there’s more than one track. Mazda Raceway and Laguna Seca are the same place, ever since Mazda bought naming rights several years ago.

    1. LOL! Shows how much I know about racing. There were more tracks confirmed. I’ll update the post xD

      1. Laguna is World Class track, just last week we had a MotoGP race there. Very nice track.

  5. cool looking game. I still hate the way games play on mobile devices though.

      1. This is why he gets paid the big bucks ^_^

  6. Pre-Alpha. Nuff said.

  7. The YouTube apple trolls are saying this won’t be for Android.

Interesting since I was hoping to see how well this would play with an Exynos 5250 processor. .-.
(Not that I believe them or anything)

    1. Real Racing 2 came out for Android. Most (if not all) of EA’s games came out on Android. If not first, than eventually for sure…

      1. Chris, is mobile gaming your favorite aspect of having a mobile phone? If EA releases more good looking titles like this, I’m gonna have to start playing :)

  8. of only they would make a good baseball game that would be awsome

  9. Corkscrew @ Laguna Seca FTW! Graphics look promising, and yes, that looks like in-game footage.

  10. I like racing games, but not on tablets. Tilting the screen to control the car isn’t my thing. Neither is using a gamepad.

I use a G25 racing wheel on my PC along with a Track IR head tracker. A wheel with force feed back, pedals, and a choice of 3 different shifters offers an experience that gets completely lost even on a gamepad. But hey, this is Android, so there’s a good chance that some day sooner than later, I’ll be able to plug my wheel into one of my future devices.

    1. You know that day is already here, right?

      1. Instead of asking a rhetorical question, why not share your insight?

Being able to plug my G25 into my Android tablet is one thing — that’s easy given my Transformer has two full size USB ports. On the other hand, making it work, as in it needs drivers and last I checked — as in just now — Logitech has not added support for Android. Even if they had, games still need to support it.

Believe me you, I look forward to a day I can get alway from my Mac running OS X and my PC running Win 7 pro and game completely on an open OS like Android. Of course I’d need a ton of USB ports; or something better. I have lots of inputs for my various games and sims.

        1. ummmm it’s “believe you me”, but I digress.
Who the hell is going to set up their G25 to use with a cell phone?? That’s just idiotic! If you have a G25, you’re going to use it in the comfort of your home while sitting in front of your flat screen tv!
It always amuses me when people talk about using game pads and steering wheels for their cell phones. REALLY? Get a freaking gaming system if you want that! The Xbox360 & PS3 are dirt cheap these days.
The point is, games like this are meant to be enjoyed while you’re AWAY from your flat screen tv, and if you’re carrying around a game pad or steering wheel just to be able to play a game on your phone…..well, you’ve got much bigger issues to deal with I can assure you. lol

          1. A PS3 controller is easy to fit in my back pack. Just saying…

Though I agree with your thoughts. The main reason I use SixAxis is for 1st Person Shooters. And yes, I take my back pack with me everywhere. I don’t like carrying things. LoL!! But now I’m just ranting. LoL!!

          2. Oh for freak sake. Why do I get the stupid ones to respond to my posts?

Seriously, think these things through, because in my eyes you’re about as bright as dead light-bulb.

Not only are you completely myopic, your reading comprehension is absolutely pathetic. Can you not keep things in context to what was written prior? Can you not think things through? Do you not understand how a thread works?

A cell phone… WOW, what a moronic assumption… You really couldn’t gather from my other posts, that I do not like playing racing games on tablets — so this would DEFINITELY imply cell-phones — which is why I referenced how I like to play them, which is on my PC with proper controls?

Do you not understand why I posted a second time, as it was a response to dnovan shore’s rhetorical question?

Yeah, a cell phone. How about a tablet with HDMI out? Or a future Android based desktop hooked up to a monitor? How about an Android based gaming console like the Ouya?

You honestly thought I would take a steering wheel — that’s hooked up to my PC and requires a stationary base — along with the pedals and shifter, with me on the go?

Congratulations, you’re by far the dumbest person I’ve encountered in some time.

            Think before you post.

          3. I am not saying that a phone will fully replace a console or a pc, but can be useful and more mobile.

Bluetooth HIDs can be connected to Android devices, Many good games can be had, and tv or monitor out can be established. I can connect my ps3 controller to my phone, sit it next to and connect to tv and play GTA3 as if I was playing a console. Yes I understand that my SGS2 does not have the capabilities a PS3 of my pc does but programs like splashtop are making more things possible.

Someday with my Android phone I will be able to just walk around and make phone calls, walk into my office and dock it to run Ubuntu while the OS is in background, go home and dock it to my TV and play a video game with a wireless controller, and before I go to sleep edit some office documents.

This is why Android development is heading in the direction it is. Yeah it doesn’t seem logical to hook up your Logitech steering wheel to your phone, but hook your phone to hdmi out to tv, now it doesn’t seem like a bad idea.

  11. Crazy. I just said the other day when looking at Asphalt… call me when Forza goes mobile.

  12. EA released Real Racing 2, initially as a demo with an IAP to unlock. Then when ICS came out the game was incompatible. In mid-July they removed the original RR2 and uploaded a new version that is ICS compatible but is an outright purchase from the Play Store.
I originally bought the game as an IAP and that is gone into the wind. I can’t redownload it on GB devices (since it’s been removed) and I can’t play it on my Sammy GS2 that was upgraded to ICS.. Lose lose.
I cannot support a business that uses tactics like this to make people buy the game more than once.

  13. haha, Porches.

  14. Now THAT’s a game I won’t mind purchasing. Awesome!!

  15. who needs ancient consoles

  16. No denying how good that looks however, I do not support EA as a company. Pass.

  17. Hmm… I refuse to believe this is for Mobile devices. I’m going to cry. That looks so…real. I don’t want to believe… Oh my gosh…
    This with HDMI out. *cries*

And Apple is expecting people to want to play this on a tiny screen!?
