Google Talk experiencing global outages, fix might take a while

9

Google has confirmed that outages experienced by GTalk users around the globe are not isolated incidents. Beginning this morning, a majority of those logging on to the chat service have been greeted with errors ranging from an inability to access their contacts list to failed attempts at sending messages. Google initially acknowledged the problem saying, “the affected users are able to access Google Talk, but are seeing error messages and/or other unexpected behavior. We will provide an update by 7/26/12 7:50 AM [EDT] detailing when we expect to resolve the problem.” The time has since been pushed back to 8:50 AM EDT. Here’s hoping Google gets things sorted out soon.

  1. Just got pushed back again to 9:50 AM EST.

  2. Mine seems to be working :)

  3. Hmm, I just coincidence, and maybe, but my phone keeps losing connection to Google services.

  4. Ah, ok. This explains why it says I’m not invisible anymore. Thanks!

  5. My phone’s connectivity indicator (when my cellular bars, WiFi bars, and 3G/4G icons turn white instead of their customary bluish) has been flipping back and forth between white and blue all day which is very unusual. This article seems to explain why. I tried accessing Talk and low and behold my contacts are grayed out and I’m unable to send messages. No biggie for me at least because most of my friends are unfortunately members of the iLemming community anyway.

    1. It matters if you’re a gmailer as no Google services connections means no push Gmail

      1. The “google services” indicator will turn white if the is ANY service interruption at all. Meaning most services will still function. Therefore Gmail still works fine. peanutsrevenge, it’s not all or nothing. The color of the indicator is very much like an “idiot light” in a car. Just because the check engine light may be on doesn’t mean the whole car is broken…

        1. Makes sense. Thanks NV

  6. G-Talk back up @ running @ 1200 EDT.
