Nexus 7 units suffering from screen separation issues?

28

The Nexus 7 seems to be a rather fine tablet for its price, but some questions regarding its build quality have started to form. Some users see to be noticing a slight raise in the device’s glass. This seems to be affecting quite a few people, unfortunately, but there is hope yet. The fix is apparently easy as pie.

The case is dead easy to pop open and re-attach, and all it takes between that process is the tightening of the screws. There’s no voided warranty to worry about so don’t be worried if you need to send your tablet back for repairs some day. Let’s hope this is the stretch of any hardware problems that may surface. The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

    2. Cherry. We don’t like Apple flavored deserts here. lol

      1. an apple a day keeps andy…barfing all day!

      2. There seems to be a lot of misunderstanding. I’m sure what he said was A.P.P.L.E., A Pleasing Platter of Lovely Eclairs. See? “Mine is sweet as a pleasing platter of lovely eclairs…”

        1. lmao +1

  2. Hope mine will be ok lol i’m waiting for pc world to phone and say it arrived hopefully tomorrow :D cant wait :)

  3. My screen is loose on left side. Every time I press there it makes sound. I have emailed for replacement

    1. I have that problem as well… same side

    2. If we’re talking portrait mode, it’s the same side for me, too! Until this article, I thought I was the only one with an issue. Bought it on Saturday from Sam’s and went back on Monday when found the issue on Sunday, but they were out of units, of course.

  4. And don’t forget dead pixels.

    1. I’ve got about 10

  5. Maybe they exposed it to heat? Either way, iFixit gave this tablet a HUGE score fore repairability factor. Unlike the iPad. So we probably won’t even need to send it in if anything happens.

  6. Damn, I am glad I waited for the second run of 7’s

  7. Holy hell — That took all of 1 minute to apply this fix. That was amazing and now my tablet is literally perfect. No light bleed and zero creaking issues now. Thank you!

    1. Mine only creaked when using excessive force on the left size of the system. Took a minute to pop the rear panel with my fingernail, tightened a few screws, and it’s great now.

  8. Haha an apple joke! Lame!

  9. So they saved $0.0089 per unit by not applying the nylon coating to prevent the screws from loosening!

  10. For once I must have gotten lucky because my is perfect, no screen separation, no ghosting, no pixels dead or stuck. This tablet is the sh!t btw.

  11. No problems here as of yet

  12. I want mine today

  13. Other websites are reporting that Google CS folks have said there was a bad batch that went out that they are replacing. How widespread I don’t know it may get worse as more and more people finally get the one they ordered from the Google Play store. Seems like a small amount at the moment now.

  14. Just ordered my 7 this morning. Hopefully no issues when it arrives.

  15. It’s a non-issue here

  16. Asus needs to whip those chinese workers into shape;)
    QC QC and more QC!

  17. It must have been a Friday and the guy in charge of screwing at ASUS had a hot date. I just hope this is an issue with loose screws and not the glue.
