Google’s Nexus 7 Tablet Could Begin Shipping As Early As Next Week

56

Google was mum on an actual release date when they unveiled the Nexus 7, their flagship 7-inch tablet last week at Google I/O. We’ve all been left guessing when the tab would actually arrive (and if it would arrive before impending legal action), but some clues from around the net are hinting that it could be arriving as soon as next week. This coming from an email a customer received direct from Google saying they would be unable to cancel the order, as the ordered has already been processed, and shipment/delivery preparations have already gone into effect.

What’s more, the listing for the Nexus 7 on Staples’ site notifies customers and would-be buyers that, although there is a limited quantity of the tablets available (we expect these to sell out fast), the Nexus tablet is expected to ship between July 12th and July 17th (no earlier than July 13th). Shouldn’t be too much longer. Anyone pre-order one? Two?

  1. yesss :D cant wait :)

  2. JUST bought mine and the shipping estimate said 3-4 weeks. :'( Wanted to grab it on the first day but my credit card was stolen the day before and it took like two weeks to get the fraud charges sorted out and a new card issued. DAMNIT!!!

    1. Have you tried Gamestop? They may still have some available for pre-order.

  3. I pre-ordered it the day they announced it. I’m still prepared to wait about ten more days, but next week sounds much better.

  4. Just ordered a 16 GB version a few minutes ago!

  5. Good news thanks.

  6. Yup… a temp charge just appeared on my bank account.
The nexus 7 is coming soon…: )… very excited

  7. I just cancelled my original order placed on the 27th. And ordered the 16 GB version. I hope that wont delay when I receive mine. Also anyone notice Staples site states Item qualifies for free delivery BAMMER!

  8. Pre-ordered 2 16GB versions witihin seconds of it being placed in the Play Store…I’ve been checking the status daily. I think by law a company cannot charge your card until the item is shipped…sadly I have no charge yet.

  9. Checked my credit card and the transaction is now pending for GOOGLE Devices. *SQUEE* This is definitely a good sign as the original pre-order email said “You will not be charged until your order has shipped.”

    1. same here man ^_^

    2. i ordered today (July 7th) and my debit card was charged the total amount (incl. shipping and taxes). Not sure what it means. Do they start shipping?

      1. Damn. That’s a good sign.

  10. Yep, ordered one the day the news hit. Haven’t gotten an email about it shipping but I’m patient, I have a new Galaxy Nexus to fiddle with while I’m waiting. :-)

  11. And a very far leap here but didn’t someone somewhere on the internet (yeah, I know, I know and I even embellished it a wee bit :P ) mention the possibility of the GNex getting Jellybean next week? That would make sense to push it all out there at the same time. Ok, probably wishful thinking on my part but far more possible than my wishing for snow right now in the middle of this heat wave. :P

  12. I was guessing next week also because Google has already announced that the Galaxy nexus will be for sale again next week and shipping with JB. I would think they would want their latest tablet to be released at same time so that JB is still new and fresh.

  13. Not to excited about a 7″ one honestly

    1. That’s what she said.

      1. BOOM

      2. Sounds like a personal problem Bro ;)

  14. I also have a pending transaction on my card from google yey! I’m in the UK

    1. I’m from UK ordered on 27th from play store.. send 4 mails to google no response … can’t wait

  15. I preordered the 8GB on the 4th, I have 3 $1.00 temporary authorizations from ‘GOOGLE’, and one for $226.92 from ‘GOOGLE Devices’ – all dated on the 4th.

  16. Don’t you tease me Chris, don’t do it! I check my status every morning just to see if anything has happened to it

  17. Yeah the pending charge has been showing up on my card since at least yesterday

    1. Can I ask when you ordered yours? I had ordered mine on the 28th and had the “pending charge” on my card on the 3rd. I wonder if that means that the shipping process has in fact begun and that they’ll be shipped in order of pre-order. Interesting.

  18. That’s strange, I received an email on my purchase stating that Google will not charge my card until item is shipped.
Thank you. You’ve made a purchase on Google Play. You will not be charged until your order has shipped.

    1. Yup, same email I got on Monday. I think the thought here is that since charges are going through that shipping is in progress.

      1. “All packages are delivered via UPS two-day shipping. However, please
note that it may take up to 2 business days for us to process your order
for shipment. Once your order has been shipped, you will receive an
email notification with a UPS tracking number.”

Hmmm… I suspect we will be seeing shipments sometime next week :)

  19. Pre-ordered the 16GB version when it was announced.
Only thing I keep going back and forth on now is whether to unlock/root it as soon as I get it. Yes, the Nexus 7 will get all updates instantly straight from Google, but I’m sure there will be a lot of untapped potential that only rooting will bring out. Thoughts?

    1. definitely unlock it right away. it wipes your device so it makes sense to unlock it before you have too much loaded up on it. I’m going to root it too, but I use root applications fairly often so it’s going to be important for me.

      1. That’s what I was thinking. I can always just keep flashing the OTA updates without any changes if I want to stay Nexus 7 pure, but I also have the option to use custom roms, etc. Is there already a good toolkit avilable for the Nexus 7 like WugFresh’s one for the Galaxy Nexus?

    2. Another thing: the NExus 7 comes loaded with some media goodies. Probably a silly question, but does anyone know if those are saved to your Google Play account for redownloading after unlocking? Or can I send them via NFC to my GNEX, unlock/root/rom and then send it back?

      1. While I don’t know for sure since I don’t have one; I would bet it’s linked to your play account and you can redownload it after you wipe and log back in. I’m going to check it out for sure before I unlock it though.

  20. Ordered a 16gb today. Hopefully i get it before some BS happens and it gets banned :(

  21. I hope you’re right. I sold my other Android tablet in order to pre-order this one. I didn’t realize how much I would miss having a tablet around. There are so many times when my phone is too small, yet my laptop is too big.

  22. I got the same email after I spoke with someone by phone and canceled my 8 gb and ordered the 16 gb instead. This is after I received a confirmation email canceling my first order. And the original 8 gb order shows as canceled on my Google wallet. I spoke to someone last night and said my 8 gb order is definitely cancelled, hopefully I don’t end up with both!

  23. I think I know why Google decided to not tell anyone about the release date of the nexus 7 tablet. We all have seen the problems that Apple has been causing samsung and htc with their release dates. I think Google might be keeping it on the down low because they don’t want apple stopping shipments before anyone can get their hands on them… At least that’s what I think…

    1. Only July 16th, they will tell us it’s shipping July 17th.

    2. Breaking News: Apple sues all postal carriers. Global shipments of everything delayed, until further notice.

  24. I had a pending charge from google for the full amount of the 16GB which I had preordered. But the weird thing is it wasnt a charge it was a credit -$287.97. That’s right it had a minus sign in front of it. Today I was expecting the charge to go through. Now there is nothing pending or charged. boo.

    1. I wouldn’t worry. That happens sometimes when a pending charge changes to a processed charge. Technically speaking they’re two separate charges. The first is to lock the amount down until processing begins. Then the typically issue a credit immediately followed by an actual charge. This happens a lot with restaurant and gas charges. You’ll typically see the charge without the tip show as pending, if you’re fast enough you’ll see the credit, then the new charge including the tip. It’s just how ebilling works.

  25. I left a message with them asking that they send to another shipping address. Google responded saying they had already sent the information to the shippers and it could not be changed. This would indicate shipment are going out soon, or they have very poor customer support.

    1. I’m gonna hope that it was the former, not the latter.

    2. If they really are using UPS, then Google has the ability to make changes to the shipment information as long as it is done before UPS makes its first attempt at delivering the item. After the ‘first attempt’, shipping information cannot be changed. Soooo, this is probably either poor customer service, or there is an issue with delivery at the moment and Google is keeping mum.

  26. It feels like Christmas.

    1. It really does, I find myself typing “Nexus 7 release date” everyday into my browser, so that I can find out the exact moment I can get my hands on my new toy.

I can’t be the only one.. Right?

      1. You’re not the only one, I’m doing that for the 7 and official ota jelly beanfor my galaxy nexus.

      2. lol. You are definitely not alone. I am upgrading from a piece-of-crap Archos tablet to a nexus 7. I CAN’T WAIT!!

  27. I’m from UK ordered on 27th , Still haven’t got any response…

  28. when will it be available at the US retailers such as gamestop ??
    hope it comes before 25th

  29. How about everyone stops looking at this as an android fanboy n start thinking like a normal common consumer. Google made a product that will appeal to a mass market. Here is why

    1. The idea that “nexus devices dont have sd slots n shouldnt be expected” is very elitest. Most people dont understand that a product not branded with the DROID name is still an android device. So expecting people to understand the differences between certain devices is asking a lot.
    2. Yes it has low storage, but when the salesman pushes it hes going to push a $200 tablet that can run the coolest n latest games, can load all ur google play or kindle or any other cloud based storage system and is small enough to fit in a back pocket or purse while still being big enough to use as a tablet.

The people who love android are the reason there are so many great things it can do. But more times than not they also are the same people who keep it from getting bigger than iproducts. Remember that at the end of the day google needs to make money and there is a lot more common consumers than tech savvy android lovers.

  30. cant wait to apply my wheatly live wallpaper to this thing

  31. Going to get 100 of them. Literally. My school district is setting up a new Android development class and I told them this is the tablet to get. :)

  32. OK, so this is from Staple’s Website (forgive me if this was already stated, didn’t read old comments): Pre-order your Nexus 7 by July 10th, 2012 to reserve one of these limited quantity tablets. Product will ship between July 12th and July 17th. Expected delivery: 1 – 3 business days, arriving no earlier than July 13th 2012. Your credit card will be charged at shipment.

  33. I’m doing the same as Chris Smith, waiting for my tablet!!!
