Nexus 7 image surfaces in Google Play’s underbelly, all but confirms device ahead of today’s announcement

19

In 30 minutes or so this thing should be official, but here is all the confirmation you need that a 7-inch tablet with a Nexus name is headed our way as part of this year’s Google I/O. The name is Nexus 7, as expected, and it looks an awful lot like the leaked images we saw earlier this week. Oh, and that’s our first real look at the Jelly Bean interface on a tablet. Nothing drastically different than Ice Cream Sandwich at first glance, but it appears tailored to the portrait orientation. Let the countdown begin…

  1. Dat bezel! o.O

    1. Costs extra $$$ to shrink bezel!

  2. Not bad… I still think a 10″ tablet is ideal when phones are 4-5″ now. I’d have to see it in person.

  3. It’s already been mentioned elsewhere but I don’t like seeing the phone interface on that tablet. Very curious.

    1. It’s not a “phone” interface… it is a unified OS that works on phone and tablets. Remember Honeycomb, the tablet-only OS? Google stated they are not in the business of making two separate UI’s — they want a single UI that allows for easy transition between devices… so the UI you use on your tablet, will be the same UI you use on your phone.

  4. Argh, the skin reminds me of those cheap Android 2.2-2.3 tabs that used to be commonplace. Hopefully, we’ll be able to change it back to the tablet skin.

  5. I’ll take 1, please.

  6. damn bezel !!!

  7. In related news Apple is seeking an injunction to block the Nexus 7 before it’s release because they are thinking of doing a 7″ tablet in the coming months….

    1. lol, so true .. apple merely “thinking” about doing a project has the lawyers salivating. crapple patent attorneys are among the highest paid attorneys int he world!

  8. Massive bezel, phone ui, also not a fan of that mounting position of the FFC on tabs aswell …

  9. BEFORE we get a zillion ‘bezel’ replies, may i remind you that somewhere, sometime, someone pointed out the bezel actually prevents you from touching the screen accidentally when holding devices… edge to edge may just be a fantasy because our hands ‘touch’ the screens in multiple places if no bezel… bezels are probably here to stay…but yaaaa, didn’t have to be quite sooo big on a nexus device for sure!

  10. Looks a little like the paranoidandroid rom. nice.

  11. Is the the death of all those horrible $100 range Android 2.1 tablets? I hope so.

  12. I hope this thing is out in a week or so… my return expiration is about to hit my Galaxy 7 (this is honestly a great tablet).

  13. Chrome Browser in the tool bar again, yeah, we’re getting Chrome standard 100%

  14. If it can be charged with a standard micro/mini USB cable, I’ll get one. I returned the Sammy Tab2 7″ because it needed a proprietary charging cable. Not crazy about all that bezel though. A little too much frame.

  15. Are they seriously not putting a MicroSD slot in the thing? why on earth???? How much extra could it possibly cost them to put a microSD card reader in it? 50 cents? 5 cents???
