S Voice working on all phones again?

18

The wonderful development community that surrounds Android achieved something great when they ported S Voice to work on many phones — even those not made by Samsung. It seemed as if Samsung caught wind and temporarily suspended the service, but reports are flowing in that things are back to normal today.

Could it be that Samsung only disabled the service because the Galaxy S3 hadn’t launched yet, or is the service being back on just a glitch? No one knows for sure, but go ahead and reinstall the app to see if it’s working again on your device, and keep your fingers crossed that it doesn’t go down again! [via The Verge]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. It’s definitely working for me, just tried it.

  2. Changed build.prop back to original & can confirm is working again for the time being!

  3. Based on my experience with s voice before shutting servers down, I was very unimpressed. The UI is a rip off of Siri and it still functions using commands. I understand that this type of tech is not perfect and still has long ways to go, but why bother with S Voice, when every other voice operated app works the same. Im gonna stick with Google Voice Actions.

    1. I agree I tried it. It sucks. I asked ‘Is it going to rain today?’ and it kept trying to send a text message. It can’t even open my camera. Jeannie and speakoit assistant works a lot better.

  4. Working well on my vzw gnex

  5. Started working for me out of the blue last night on my gnex

  6. Or; download the Beta Labs ver of Vlingo. It appears to BE SVoice.

  7. I love Android and my Galaxy Nexus, but Samsung is getting shameless with the Apple knock offs…. down to the layout and even launch events

  8. 2 questions .. do you have to be rooted…if not where can I get the apk.

    1. brah why not just root ^_^

  9. Where is the apk for me to test it out???

  10. Nvmmmmm found the .rar

  11. all of you who bitch about the s-voice. You dont even have an s3, the s-voice isn’t even part of your phone. dont like it, delete it. fucking haters

  12. Do u have to be rooted?

    1. No. You don’t have to be rooted. But for some of the functions to work, the app has to be installed in your system folder, and you have to be rooted to put it there.

If you use it and find everything you do with it works, then no need to root. But you don’t need to be rooted to install an app.

Off topic, but to change your build.prop to make it seem lyk you had the GS3 is root related, but wasn’t necessary.

Seeing as a lot of ppL are looking for it. LoL!!

  14. Suck. It took me 6 times to get it to recognize I wanted to add an event at 7pm. Voice recognition seems awful.
Asking for the weather resulted in a bunch of crappy weather data for NYC (which is not near where I am)

Really, if it can’t enter a calendar appointment for me or take a note, its worthless.
