Motorola DROID Bionic now free on contract

10

The Motorola DROID Bionic for Verizon is not the worst phone the carrier has to offer, but it can now be had for the low, low price of “free.” The carrier has dropped the price of the phone in what is likely to be a move to clear as many shelves as they can. While the phone isn’t bad, it wasn’t launched in the best situation.

Not only was it launched far beyond its initial announcement, it was launched alongside arguably better devices. Plug in the fact that bugs plagued the phone starting out and it’s clear as day why Verizon decided to drop the price on this phone so quickly. In any case, $0 is a great price for this phone, all things considered. Take advantage of it here. [via Droid-Life]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Sold mine for a Gnex a long time ago.

  2. I got my Bionic on launch day; it wasn’t launched along side anything. Sure, “arguably” better devices came along VERY quickly afterward, but they weren’t launched the same day, week, or month. As far as those other devices being better – it’s a weak argument.

I understand shelves must be cleared to make room for new devices, but the release debacle and early bugs shouldn’t have any bearing on it’s value NOW.

    1. I dont even have one…and I agree. I have a RAZR. And if it wasnt for the Maxx…if nothing new gets my attention in the upcoming months I was seriously thinking about getting one.

Not to replace my RAZR…but to replace my Rezound. Got a family plan and need at least 2 decent phones I like. The Rezound wasnt it. The G Nex…I shoulda kept that.

  3. I have had my device from day one it it has been great! Battery conaumpption the biggest issue but i bought a gactory OEM battery and i can get a whole day on one charge. I have the lapdock and hd dock and the phone is great. I actually ordered 2 others for family and they love them as well. It seems to me there isnt a device that gets launched that has bugs even before they hit shelves

  4. Sometimes free is not worth it. Get a Nexus device. At least then you
can benefit from third-party support without fighting a locked
    bootloader.

  5. Verizon and Motorola really dropped the ball with this phone. It should have been released months before the Razr, not a couple of weeks.

  6. This sucks, I plunked down about a 170 just two months ago for the bionic. Love this phone though, best I have had in a long time. I knew how long this phone has been out, and that’s why I bought it. It’s been out long enough for the bugs to be worked out.

  7. The next headline in a fee weeks will read like this: Verizon places EOL next to the Bionic.

  8. I think this phone gets a bad rap. This is a very solid, very fast phone that has no problem running any of the software out there for Android. After all the patches etc, I have zero issues with this phone. I love the thing. The Bionic is an excellent phone to get free with a contract, especially now that is sounds like it actually will get ICS (which I had given up on long ago).

  9. Have had this phone since release. I had 5 others since release also this is motorola/verizons red headed step child of a phone. They hate it so much they even took it off the droiddoes.com website and added it to doesnothing.com
