May 18th looking likely for EVO 4G LTE arrival

15

Without formally announcing it, Sprint’s confirmed that the EVO 4G LTE should be arriving right around the previously rumored May 18th date. Those who took the time to preorder the device this morning were met with messages that devices would begin shipping May 15th, and delivery to their doorstep would occur in 1-3 business days.

Sprint preorderers tend to receive devices earlier than the phone is due, so those first two days beyond May 15th could probably be disregarded and May 18th should be the day that everyone will be able to just walk into a store and buy it. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Nice…..preordered and just waiting for this beast to come to my doorstep.

  2. Yeah, but I cant justify going for this now. I have an original EVO with 4G, why would I lose that network speed? I will wait till LTE is available here in CT then make the jump to this or the GS3

    1. I jumped the gun and got it. I have 4g here in NYC, but my personal wimax speeds averaged 1.5 mbps. I don’t know why Sprint picks on me but that was hardly worth holding onto.

  3. Would it be a bit much to assume that because of this release date for the EVO, we might see the GS3 a month later in June ? I love the fact that I might have to choose between 2 awesome devices this summer that are under the same carrier !

    1. That assumption doesn’t really make any sense. Samsung phones have always had a 5-7 month lag on sprint from the international release. Don’t know why to expect it to change now.

      1. That’s true for pretty much EVERY carrier. Sprint was relatively fast bringing out the GSII. And the GS2 came out shortly after the HTC EVO 3D (about a month and some change later).

        1. 5 months is fast to you??? The SGS2 was released overseas’s may 5th, it did not come tp sprint until sept 16th.
The Galaxy Nexus hit overseas november 7th 2011 and it came to sprint 2 weeks ago. (April 2012) Thats 6 months.
I think even the Galaxy S was late on sprint.

          1. state side, (Not nexus since that is a different story) Sprint is typically the FIRST carrier with a Galaxy S phone on shelf.

this year, Samsung has publicly STATED that they expect the GS3 to hit MUCH SOONER this year, expecting a June launch.

i would have to agree that sprint is coming to the table with the GS3 pretty soon based on those facts.

      2. Just wishful thinking since Samsung has made it seem like they want things to move a little faster this time around.

  4. Can’t wait to bring this bad boy to work just to make my coworkers jealous.

    1. I remember when I got the E4GT and brought it to work. I showed that phone to anyone who made eye contact. :)

  5. I’ll place the order once the hour I find out if the boot loader is unlocked!!!

  6. I’m tryna convince my GF to get this with her discounted upgrade! It’s soo good! She said she wants to wait till the sgs3 comes out though, she’s owned the First ans Second Galaxy S devices for Sprint…

What do you guys think.. SGS3 or EVO? O_o

    1. I like the Evo better than the S3. I currently own the E4GT. Since she is really used to TouchWiz and AMOLED, she might be right in waiting. Inky blacks are addicting. :) We also don’t know what carrier specific twists might get added to the S3. The One X and the Evo are pretty different. But personally, I’m not making any decisions until WP8 and BB10 hit Sprint. So I’ll be waiting longer than her even. Not what you want to hear, but I agree with her.

  7. I pre-ordered and it said 3-5 business days for shipping. I got the tracking number went to the website and it says that the device is currently backordered. :( I still hope that maybe just maybe it will ship out in the next few days…
