HTC Further Details Update Schedule For Android 4.0 Rollout – Sensation 4G, XE and XL First In Line

38

It wasn’t too long ago that HTC clued us in on their plans to bring Android 4.0 to their devices, starting with their Sensations like the 4G and Sensation XL although, no specific time-frame was given. Well, today, according to HTC’s blog post, it looks like Ice Cream Sandwich is all set to rollout for those handsets and is currently in the “early stages” of deployment for a few others like the Sensation and Sensation XE who should see something in the next few weeks.

So what about the rest of HTC’s lineup? Well, here’s a list of 16 additional devices confirmed to receive Android 4.0 soon:

  • DROID Incredible 2 by HTC
  • HTC Amaze 4G
  • HTC Desire S
  • HTC Desire HD
  • HTC EVO 3D
  • HTC EVO Design 4G
  • HTC Incredible S
  • HTC Sensation
  • HTC Sensation XL
  • HTC Sensation 4G
  • HTC Sensation XE
  • HTC Raider
  • HTC Rezound
  • HTC Rhyme
  • HTC Thunderbolt
  • HTC Vivid

HTC also mentioned that once they start pumping out updates, it could take some time before carriers in every country will receive it and even though they’re working closely with their carrier partners to “nail down and update schedule,” these updates will need to go through the usual (sometimes slow) screening process before they hit your device.

It will be interesting to see which carrier will be first to update their HTC devices to Android 4.0 and if this will beat out the release of the HTC One X and One S. Sprint? T-Mo? …Verizon?

  1. We already know it won’t be a U.S. carrier to receive it first.

    1. No, you’re thinking of Samsung. This is htc. *grin

  2. Haha, you said Verizon

    1. I have a Rezound. I’m not expecting a non-rooted version of ICS on it until at least Sept. Verizon is always the last with their OS updates.

  3. Won’t be Verizon.

  4. wow no love for the mytouch 4g slide?  It’s got pretty much the same internals as the sensation.  leave no (capable) phone behind htc!

    1. It’s also got Espresso which means they’ll have to work on that separate (if ever) =/

      1. What’s Espresso??

  5. If it hasn’t began carrier testing we still have a long time to wait! :-*

  6. I already have it courtesy of XDA :-)

    1. are you running on it on an htc?

      1. Yes. And I am too.

There was a leak, and some devs built on top of it. Be excited.

        1. not too excited until it’s complete.   Some of the builds are a mess and not worth rooting your phone for.

          1. Not the case with Android Revolution HD 6.5, it’s more stable than my phone was out of the box, and everything works. Also, the features of 4.0 are awesome.

Basically, the difference between Sense 3.6 and 4.0 is a launcher, and notifications bar. Not much functionally.

        2. 27 year old man melt down in 3……2……SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
It’s so FLUFFY i’m GONNA DIE!
          I really want 4.0 with 4.0….

  7.  well since tmo only has 2 on that list it should be them haha

  8. I’m thinking the Sensation will be one of the first because that was pretty much HTC’s flagship internationally last year.  I think T-Mobile will push it out after the international release though because I’ve heard they have to do extra configuring for WiFi Calling with these software updates,

  10. would think Rezound would be near the top

    1. I was excited to see my evo 3d so close to the top but then I realized they were just in abc order ha! but I agree I thought the rezound would be the the first htc to have 4.0?

    2. While I hope so, I think the older phones will be first by the fact they had more time to develop and test.  The TB has been out since what, April of last year?   That gives HTC quite a while to dick around with putting ICS on it.  Since the rezound is relatively new, it had less ICS development time.

    3. The list is in alphabetical order… has nothing to do with the order of which handsets will be upgraded.  I do agree that Rezound should be sooner than later tho…

  11. Not gonna lie I am increasingly less thrilled about ics every day… The buildup has been so big and lasted for so long! I think it will have to be astounding to live up to all the hype!

    1. It’s nice, but you probably won’t be blown away. I have a Galaxy Nexus and love it, but if you’re wait for a 4.0 with Sense on top, then you probably won’t notice much with day to day interaction…

      1. ^reasonable answer that won’t get my hopes up or inflate “the second  coming” lol thanks :p

  12. Alredy out for Sensation in Sweden:-)

  13. Running AOSP ICS on Desire S at the mo. If nothing else, these updates will being kernal 3.0 for me so everything works nice. Not sure if I’ll go back to Sense tbh.

  14. How is this news? No shxt it’s coming soon we knew that! This tells me nothing

    1. your non-comment tells us nothing.

  15. I can’t wait for this to come out on the Evo 3D. So tired of seeing ICS on the Transformer, Prime, and Galaxy Nexus. lol

  16. And none of these iCS upgrades are coming with
    sense 4.0 right?

    1. Right, no sense 4.0 from what I understand. Sense 4.0 can only run on an hTC with the upgraded camera hardware (One X,S) image sense/image chip.
That’s why the the One V has sense 3.6. It don’t have the hardware of the X &S.
So all the other phones that will get updated will run sense 3.6.

  17. Nothing on Verizon is gonna get it before the DROID does… and seeing that they aren’t even getting it soon that might be never… I’m ’bout to start a ICS 2012 campaign.

    1. And I’m not counting the SGN

  18. Nuuuu..my Desire Z ;-;

  19. I still can’t believe the tbolt is being updated. Way to go HTC

  20. Desire Z / G2 ??

  21. What about the HTC mytouch
