Motorola ATRIX 4G Users Due for a Software Update Soon, Says Soak Test Invites

15

The Motorola ATRIX 4G may be a bit old in smartphone years but it’s still a pretty great device and Motorola’s committed to continued support. They’re gearing up to release a new software update soon, one we expect to primarily be a bug fixer. Users have started receiving invitations for soak testing. As always, we’re not expecting Ice Cream Sandwich this go-around but any update is a good one. If all goes well we should be seeing something in February for all users. [PocketNow]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. kind of interested what Motorola will bring to the table this year, they’ve been among the only manufacturers that didn’t bring a handset above 4.3″

    1. This is my dream from Motorola – a Nexus phone with bluetooth 4.0, 4.3″ screen, NFC, 32 GB internal memory, huge battery, and ICS.  Don’t really care that much about the processor or if the screen is HD though I think all phones will be from now on.  I love my Atrix and really hope they bring something great to ATT when my upgrade is due.

  2. Geez, I can’t believe it’s already been a year! No doubt devs at xda are going to improve their roms with this update. I’m excited.

  3. Oh. I’m running cm7 on my Atrix. And wow, is that Motoblur hideous or what?

    1. True I unlocked and loaded CM7 on my Atrix as soon as I got it, wasn’t going to put up with that Blur crap for even one minute.

    2. oh yes, installed cm7 as well, and then EVERYTHING got instantly better, and I mean EVERYTHING.  Every aspect of my Atrix improved vastly.  Thats when I realized just how shitty motoblur was.

      1. Yup, I feel the same way. I used to get random reboots all the time with motoblur stock rom, and with CM7.. i NEVER get reboots

    3. Also an Atrix owner with CM7. I don’t know why they are making it sound like the Atrix is an inferior device. In antutu mine is right up there with the galaxy nexus numbers wise. I’m about to try neutrino rom. Screw motoblur. Long live CM7 + atrix.

  4. unless it’s ICS, it’s a fail.

  5. I just hope my Atrix gets ICS it not fair that Verizon DROID line up will be getting ICS and it sucks for us Atrix owners thats not.

    1. How old are you 3???? “Its not fair, its not fair” pouty face……….grow up!

  6. I’m pretty sure that once ICS is released to the public for DROID users, devs will be able to make a complete CM9 for Atrix. It just needs camera, Netflix, fingerprint unlock, and Webtop, and it’ll be amazing.

      1. You should read the post more carefully. He says a “COMPLETE CM9”. Yes, there is an alpha build of CM9 out there, but it’s missing camera support, webtop and pretty much everything in Joe’s list. Webtop as it is currently implemented is heavily tied up with Blur, so it will have to be a ground-up implementation to get it in CM9.

  7. I have a gsm galaxy nexus now and have to say that at times I miss my little atrix. The atrix should go down in history as 1 of the best phones made. And you guys that flashed cm7 on it are right, it helped to transform the atrix into a beast.
I can see myself buying another one as a great backup phone. The only thing that would have made it better is if it had the atrix 2’s screen or an hd screen but it was a little early for that.
