Xbox Live Games Coming Soon To An Android Device Near You

26

After a developer recently leaked to Business Insider that Microsoft would soon be bringing their Xbox Live titles to other mobile OS’s outside of WP7 — specifically, iOS and Android — we now have a more fuel to throw on top of that fire and it’s a doozy. When speaking with Forbes, a Microsoft spokesperson has seemingly confirmed our initial suspicions on the “other OS rumor” after saying,

“While the Xbox Live experiences and games always work best on the Windows platform, we understand that some Xbox fans may be using other types of devices. To satisfy that need, we are working to extend a few of our Xbox experiences and titles to other platforms.”

As both a fan of multiple OS’s and multiple gaming systems, I welcome this news wholeheartedly and with open arms. Hopefully we wont have to wait too much longer before we’ll be playing titles like Twin Blades on our Android phones. Think I just got goosebumps. Anyone else excited?

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  4. Hell yeah dawg!!!

  5. I’m really looking forward to seeing how this progresses and how far MS goes with XBLA on Android. This could potentially be a beautiful thing. MS only stands to profit from it, and in this case, XBLA is theirs, very legitimately and while I expect that XBL will not be free on Android, if the features vs.  price is right, I’m down.

Okay there I fixed it! hehe

  9. If this turns out to be anything like games for windows live, I’ll pass.

  10. cool

  11. Bring on Toy Soldiers!

  12. Yay, and maybe a native xbox live app that doesn’t suck

  13. Here’s what I would love to see happen in the future:

I buy a full game for my Xbox 360.  I open it up to find some sort of activation code for a minigame that can be played on my Android device that contributes achievement points (and possibly even adds weapons, character upgrades, etc) to the full game.

It’s totally possible.  Make it happen, MS!

  14. So..this the final nail in the coffin for WP7?

    1. Nail in the coffin? WP7 is actually flourishing quite well. Their sales are going up and they actually have a pretty strong phone lineup coming up. This is just MS taking advantage of all the money that’s on the table.

  15. “we understand that some Xbox fans may be using other types of devices”

I think they meant to say their paying subscribers..

I just want an official xbox live app I can check online statuses and message with

  16. Why the hell would M$ put their app on Android OS when their receiving free money from Android from patent

  17. Holy friggin Christ Batman, Microsoft actually does have some logical brains left in its decision making pool. Man, they just sold be on their next generation console. This could be huge news for both companies.

  18. I knew they would come to other devices, thats why i didnt jump on the Wp7 banwagon. They are making more money on us Android users anyway so it makes since for them to do this.

  19. I was always debating getting a wp7 device but I just couldn’t step away from my galaxy s2 when I upgraded. I am stoked about this news. hopefully they bring the entire xbox live experience with it. Though that’s what I have spark360 for

  20. Love to see this as well.

  21. This would be excellent. I may actually buy more XBL games if I can use them on my phone

  22. Its a trap! They want to get us hooked on Xbox Live and then they’ll drop their Halo and Gears games exclusive to Windows phones to tempt us to jump ship. And guess what, I’ll take my chances and download the app on my nexus anyway.
