Android 4.0.3 Source Code Pushed to the AOSP

23

Earlier today Google announced Android 4.0.3, and now the source code of the latest Ice Cream Sandwich version is available via the AOSP. For the first time ever, the push includes four separate versions of the source, including builds for the Motorola XOOM, Nexus S, and for the two versions of the Galaxy Nexus. It accomplishes a number of firsts, including the first AOSP release for a Verizon device, the first release for a non-Nexus device, and the first release for a tablet.

Googler Jean-Baptiste Queru calls the latest “the best release ever.” Strong words backed by a strong Android release.

  1. 3 of these devices are sitting infront of me at the moment, cant wait to flash 4.0.3 on my xoom!

    1. One of my Nexus S got OTA for 4.0.3 last night. It’s 128MB and took quite a while to download and install. It looks great although slightly slower than 2.3.6.

  2. Nice! True to their word of defragmentation

  3. This is awesome!  I kinda want a Xoom now.

  4. Does that mean i can easily put ICS on my Wifi Xoom? Or will i need to wait for an actual build?

  5. Can I be put on some kind of email list to get an alert when we get the first stable, stock ICS release for the GT 10.1?  Anybody want to just shoot me an email?  K, THX.

  6. IT NEEDS A BATTERY FIX AND SIGNAL ON LTE SIGNAL IS NOT AS STRONG

  7. How do I push this to my Xoom?

  8. Sweet!!  Now that there’s source out for the Nexus S, the (already very functional) build for the i500 (Fascinate/Mesmerize/Showcase) should get even better!!

  9. Wow, who did Verizon blow to get this kind of treatment for it products. I hope att has a better Android year in 2012 than in 2011.

    1. ATT gets no love, they were last to the Android game because they wanted to cling to their coveted iPhone… now they can wallow in it.

  10. Sorry for off-topic question: Does G-Nex has notification light? I just bought it yesterday and I havent seen it go off yet. Do I have to turn on some setting? Thanks in advance

    1. It has a very nice one, actually. It is large, bright and multicolored: just install Light Flow (or similar) from the market.

The Galaxy Nexus LED indicator is probably the nicest I’ve ever seen (and I’ve owned many phones.

      1. I agree, I gave up my N1 for this phone and was sad to lose the notification LED..I was glad when it lit up last night!

        1. The notification light on the N1 is the thing I miss most about that phone. Have a Sensation now (stupid move), and all you get is a tiny blinking light that does nothing when the phone is charging. So envious of you GNex people.

    2. Yes its on the bottom bezel..

      1. I have gotten a few texts and phone call. They all show up on the notification bar on top but nothing on notification light. When someone calls, the notification light goes up but nothing afterward if I get a missed call or text when the screen is off. I think I need to go to verizion store tomrrow to get this taken care of. Thanks guys

    3. You might wanna get some friends.  Then they can text you and you can see your light. LOL!!! Totally kidding. =)  It’s there… It’s super soothing too. Bottom center bezel where the old hard keys used to be.

  11. Updated to 4.0.3 and loving it. This is why I went with the nexus.

  12. Wow! Galaxy nexus…..glad I made the purchase! I have a xoom as well, though I see a lot of complaints I have never had an issue other than the 4g fiasco.

  13. WHUT THE FUKK I JUST GOT A NEXUS S 4G….OMFG SOMBODY BETTER COME UP WITH A ROM FOR THIS. I’M SICK AND TIRED OF THESE HALF-A**ED ROMS COMING OUT.
