Verizon Releases Official Statement Regarding Galaxy Nexus, But It Doesn’t Get Us Off of Square One

135

So Verizon has finally communicated regarding the Galaxy Nexus launch. Android & Me got a statement from the folks at Big Red stating that the device is still on track to launch this year and that they will indeed be issuing a press release to announce availability (which kills my quiet launch theory). There’s just no word on when that press release will be issued. Here’s their full quote:

The Galaxy Nexus is still on track to launch this year. We will definitely send a press release to announce availability. Feel free to visit www.verizonwireless.com/galaxynexus to sign up for email alerts to be one of the first to know.

And there you have it – the communication we all asked for but not exactly the answer we were looking for. We have no choice but to accept it anyway.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

I’m hoping they release it before christmas…I can stand all this drama in the comments section anymore (although it was fun somethimes to participate)

p.s. I don’t even live in the US xD (Thankfully)

      1. 4. Profit?

        1. xD

That should be number 5 actually…still need number 4 for ???

  2. Bust

  3. I hope that when I eventually get this phone, I will be able to enjoy and stop harboring all of my bitterness and resentment towards this launch. I’m not even a Verizon customer and this launch is pissing me off. I pray Tmobile will carry it and stop trying to push the SGSII so hard.

  4. That means no launch tomorrow since they need to announce it first.

    1. Sadly that was my first thought…..

      1. Yep, gonna be probably the 29th is my guess. UGH F*** YOU VZW

    2. They’re going to announce it when it’s actually available and not a minute before that.  This isn’t one of their elite Droid phones, so it’s not worth announcing beforehand, lol.

    3.  I had the same thought. I hope it still releases though and tonight at midnight we all get an emails saying its available.

    4. Yea why would they make a announcement that it’s still on track to launch this year if they planned on launching tomorrow.  Seems like they would only make a announcement like this because they just found out they are NOT going to be able to launch tomorrow. Then again this announcement is not really an announcement it’s just probably just a Email from the Verizon PR department in regards to one request.

  5. You’ve got to be kidding.

  6. big red is rhythmic slapping on all of our bungholes at this point…

    1. So i called 6 stores in the last 15 minutes and asked, “Is the galaxy nexus still on track to release tomorrow or has it been delayed again?” I had 4 very tight lipped people who all basically said its TBD or “no comment.” One person who had to ask a manager and sounded like she never heard of it. And finally a store that said, “yeah it’s launching tomorrow” without hesitating in the slightest. I shouldn’t do this to myself, but this makes me believe that it will be launching tomorrow. Is it possible that some stores launch tomorrow while others are waiting for shipments and when all get shipments THEN they will advertise?

      1. Granted, my confirmation store was in flint michigan. Not exactly the home of booming geniuses (VERY high crime rate)

        1. yo phinnybaby im from flint town too LOL, what stores did you call so i can scratch them off my list?

          1. I’m actually more towards MT. Pleasant, but I’d be willing to drive to flint to visit family in flushing and pick up this phone. So if they release it and others dont it’s worth the hour drive.

          2. I have a little strip mall store by my house that im gonna hit up before i go to work today and see if he got his in (holding one for me). I bug this dude 2-3 times a week so if tomorrow is the date, he will tell me.

  7. Stinks that places like radioshack will tell you they have them, but calling a vzw store they are tighter than fort knox!  Bullocks.  I had my hopes on tomorrow, but looking bleak

  8. I hope they give the go ahead to start selling them tomorrow, then sometime tomorrow have a press release saying the the Galaxy Nexus is On sale now! That’s wishful thinking but I don’t see why it couldn’t happen. It says they will send out a press release to announce availability, not a release date. I hope my theory holds true.

  9. Maybe pr later today or first thing tomorrow

    1. Doubtful they’d announce first thing tomorrow since they usually launch at midnight the day of.

  10. you’re kidding… WOW!

So who’s going out tomorrow to try and get one on the second? third? fourth? failed launch day?

    1. I will be as my local store checked the computer and said tomorrow is the day.  I don’t want to be part of the rumor mill…but that is what was told to me by a smaller Verizon store that probably doesn’t have a clue what they have in the Gnex.

      1. good luck bro!

  11. So what does that mean, Dec. 31st… My BB is on its last leg, I need this thing now!

  12. RIP Dec. 15 rumor

  13. Most plausible reason for ever sliding release is to prop up Razor sales.  Add the Pavlovian fervor that increases the hype among idiots like me who checks these sites all day long waiting for some word that seems true.  Finally sprinkle in updates to existing LTE phones, the most recent being the Bionic, to mitigate/alleviate LTE network congestion issues and there you have it the tri-fecta of reasons for the delay.

    1. Actually the most plausible reason is Google fucked it up. Another failed release by Google.

  14. I’m not one to rumor-monger and feed the fire, however, someone within VZW told me yesterday night that December 15th is the launch date.  Take it at face value, but I’m going to have faith in my source and assume this is merely posturing, opposed to having some catastrophic shift from last night to now.

  15. probably not out of the realm of possibility to launch it next friday for the folks (like me) that are on a mad rush for last minute shopping. plus, most companies give that friday off anyway (or the following monday).

  16. That was a big middle finger in the face.

  17. Sigh…

    1. Anyone else getting confirmation from the VZW store reps that the phone comes out tomorrow? I’ve been to a corporate store and an affiliate store and they both confirmed the phone is coming out tomorrow. As a matter of fact, the affiliate rep is setting one aside for me to pick up tomorrow morning.

      1. Yes but my rep said it would come out tomorrow but that was two days ago..

      2. Good luck, brother!

      3. Yes. I actually paid for mine and am picking it up tomorrow as they were told that they could not release it today even though it’s in stock.

      4. Yep, just came from a store in Charlotte, he said come back tomorrow at 8am and he will sell it to me, until then, no can do. He also said that last week, he got an email first thin in the morning on the 9th, saying do not sell, even though they were ready to do so.

So basically, this thing is not locked yet, cause Verizon in their infinite wisdom could decide to send an email tomorrow at 6am saying hold off.

      5. Store in Flower Mound, Texas, rep told me last night (11/13) that it “should be” on sale on the 15th. But he also indicated he couldn’t guarantee anything, and it might not be available tomorrow. Basically, Verizon is a crappy company that can’t get their junk together, and they don’t have a problem jerking everyone around. End of story.

      6. Same here from a corporate store, but I have had other corporate stores tell me no so I am dropping by just in case.

    2. I actually just went over to my local VZ store and the rep told me the phone is being release the 18th??? (This is what her manager told her)  I don’t think VZ has ever released a phone on a Sunday (at least that i can recall)…I’ll be at the store tomorrow when it opens just in case.

      1. I spoke to a VZW rep yesterday, and he said they haven’t even been trained on the Nexus yet, which usually precedes launch by a week or two, according to him.

Who the hell knows, it’s tthe 15th, no the 18th!, no wait, I mean last week!, no I meant next week!

Screw VZW, they effed this one up real nice.

        1. I was interrogating a Verizon store manager who confirmed the launch was going to be on the 9th, and that she got a text the night before saying that the launch was postponed. Separately, another Verizon manager said they had not received training on the phone in the run-up to the 9th launch date. When I asked about the discrepancy, he said that Verizon was getting sneakier about big launches to avoid leaks…probably to maintain their flexibility.

    3. I would have preferred a picard facepalm version.

  19. I called 3 local stores this morning.  2 said they would be selling them, the 3rd wasn’t sure but took my name/number.  A few minutes ago, she called back to tell me they wouldn’t know for sure until 4 this afternoon, but that she’d call me then.  Take it FWIW.

    1. I got the same 4:00 thing too! I wonder what’s going to happen at 4…

      1. As did I to.. hmmmm.

      2. it’s called getting off of work…and ignoring ur call..lol

  20. calling all capable hackers out there, I’m sure the people waiting for this phone would be more than happy to pool together some sort of compensation for you to accidentally hack VZ’s system to email all their distributors to launch tomorrow. While you’re at it can you empty their corporate officers’ bank accounts and distribute it evenly among the people who have been bullied by vz over the years (deathgrips on phone’s abilities, release dates, and exorbitant prices). That should give us all maybe 6 months of credit for VZ service. thankyou and goodluck

  21. I signed up on their website a LONG time ago and have not once received a single email about anything to do with the SGN from big red.

    1. I bet we will never get an email from them

      1. Or we’ll get one 2-5 days AFTER it’s available.

        1. Haha will be signing in to google acount on the Nexus and after playing with it will get an email and read it on the phone

    2. +1 same as the google sight.

    3. I expect to get an email with a big photo of the Verizon CEO flipping me the bird, shouting “Gotcha good, ****er!” And still no phone.

  22. this is bullshit

  23. They could announce it today.

  24. I’m still expecting the launch tomorrow. Not that I know anything, but the corporate store that I had talked to that said they’d call when they had info (in Pittsburgh) just called and said that they are planning the launch for tomorrow, or at the latest, Friday. He said if something changed, he’d be calling the 15 people on the list back, but at this point, the employees had been told that they’d be staying after close for a little bit to set up a display tonight.

  25. They’re just trolling us at this point now…

  26. This fiscal year, or actual year?

    1. Good News, the VZW fiscal year ends 12/31 too!

  27. Wtf!? I seriously feel like screaming at an exec at vzw corporate

  28. Oh yah, forgot to mension that we here at VZW go by Chinese New Years so this bad boy will be in your hands within the next 38 days.

    1. im so sick of seeing that stup fucking site!!! GTFO!!!

  29. I’m now officially convinced VZW is using this as a marketing ploy.  With all the talk and bitch about the GNEX it’s become one of the biggest trending subjects on all search engines and social networking sites.  Problem is I think they’re at the point the strategy is gonna start working against them.

  30. The exact same people that are bitching and whining are the same people who will be buying this phone day one! Yeah that will teach Verizon a lesson I am sure! NOT!! If you dont like Verizon or they way they are handling the Nexus launch then pay the ETF and go somewhere else or simply just dont buy it! Its the holdiday season anyway, shouldnt you people be thinking about others instead of your precious beloved galaxy nexus?? How sad you people are!!

    1. You should be thinking of others all of the time instead of just around a time some followers of a rebellious jewish man chose as his birthday to silence the pagans who wanted a winter solstice.

Also, I was one of the “day one” people but all of this has given me great pause.  With the drama regarding their apps, not allowing google wallet, etc. I have decided to hold off and see what the modders can do, then I will see what is coming in the new year and likely just get an unlocked model or wait for it to come to a carrier on GSM so I am not locked into a single carrier with that phone.

  31. I’m pretty sure this whole ordeal will be a college marketing classes case study about what NOT to do for a product launch

check this page, an lets be heard
    http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dear-Google-STOP-Screwing-up-Nexus-Releases/103723073079668

    1. Sorry, moopuna, but that book was already written by HP earlier this year.  This will simply be an addendum!  :)

  32. EXCLUSIVITY! That is all

    /fail

  33. Worst launch ever but I’ll keep waiting, they will not break me.

  34. I’m so over this phone, crappy camera, crappy screen,  if it was released with gingerbread instead of ICS most people would not even take notice.

    1. And how is the Screen crappy?? Did you see the review of the Camrea on technobuffalo?? Its actually a pretty decent camera. Kinda of like how the iphone fours camera is still better than 90 percent of the 8 megapixel cameras..

    2. How is the camera crappy?

  35. How can Verizon screw this up sooo many times.  Don’t they realize that most people that are interested in this phone are going to root it first thing and remove all of Verizon’s crapware…put Google Wallet back on there…get an non-Verizon branded backing.

In my opinion Verizon didn’t realize what a developer phone was going to mean.  They just need to instruct their sales staff to steer non tech savvy customers to the iPhone.

  36. On track? Soo… it’ll be on the 31st or something as they handle some last minute negotiations?? I want christmas to come early this year – as in I want santa to come tomorrow with a Galaxy Nexus!!

  37. Guess 12/15 is out of the question now!!!

  38. I hate vzw

  39. Probably a waste of time, but I sent this to the COO, VP/Chief Marketing Officer, and VP of Corporate Communications at VZW through their corporate info site:

    Mrs./Ms./Mr. (Name)

I hope that this message reaches you directly but I’m not sure if that is a reasonable expectation given the size of VZW and the number of communications I’m sure you receive.

I and thousands of others have been waiting, patiently, for months now for the eventual release of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone through Verizon Wireless.  Since Google’s announcement of the phone and the indication that Verizon would be the exclusive carrier, many have been wiating on the phone to replace older phones that are on their last, proverbial, legs.  Given the unique nature of this phone as a developer phone for new platforms like Android 4.0, Verizon holds the key to enabling the development community to truly support this new operating system.  That development ecosystem is a key factor in the success of the Android platform on it’s own and in competition with the Apple IOS ecosystem, which excludes Verizon’s standard application and functionality “enhancements” in the form of pre-installed software.

The development community operates in the obscure world of not-so-publicly-available information about systems, release dates, etc. and has been all to aware of previous expected (but unannounced) release dates such as December 9 and now December 15.  That same development community, which is keenly attuned to this kind of information, is becoming increasingly frustrated with repeasted delays of the Galaxy Nexus product and the repeated releases, in shorter time frames, of products like the white Motorola Razr.

Truly, the lack of any commitment to a specific release date or communication to those that are anxious to send Verizon their money to acquire this phone is creating significant animosity.  Put bluntly, “Release by the end of the year” doesn’t cut it.

There may be an internal thought that there are other Android and IOS phones available and people can just buy those if they need a phone.  The development and enthusiast communities will not buy another phone when they know what is supposed to come.  They will, on the other hand, leave Verizon, buy unlocked phones and go to other carriers.  They will make other arrangements that do not include Verizon Wireless and its LTE platform.

In short, some additional and more detailed communication and a commitment to a release date are in order.  An olive branch of sorts to those that want to send their money to Verizon is overdue.

I appreciate your time and any information you can offer.

    Thank you,

    Dan B.

    1. Well written. You’re way too kind, though. I have no respect for these idiots and I hate myself for being willing to give them my money. (It’s just that the competition isn’t any better!)

      1. morally both t-mobile and sprint are, maybe at&t to. service wise they are nowhere close :(

    2. care to share his email address?  i’d like to give him a piece of my mind..

      1. I went to this page and sent the message to the contact links at the bottom of the executive bios.
        http://aboutus.verizonwireless.com/leadership/executive/index.html

    3. Sounds decent, but I doubt VZW cares. Could of at least ran a spell checker and proofread a little as there were at least 3 grammatical errors.

  40. Verizon Employee at the kiosk just looked it up again. Said it would release the 18th, which is a Sunday. Sounds like another B.S. date. What scumbags.

  41. I actually find it kind of funny how few people actually know that. I’m gonna celebrate Saturnalia =D

  42. I’m convinced it’s either coming out tomorrow or New Years Eve…Verizon is messing this one up big time…At this point, they should launch this crap with Google Wallet, Flash and a $100 off offer.

  43. Dear Verizon Galaxy Nexus, you still ain’t called or wrote a release date, I hope you have a chanceI ain’t mad – I just think it’s F’d up you don’t answer fans If you didn’t wanna tease me with a promo in Octoberyou didn’t have to, but you coulda signed an autograph for Matthew That’s what i named  my OG Droid, he’s only two years old We waited in the blistering cold for you on 12/9, freezing up with 2 battery pulls for four hours and you just said, “No.”That’s pretty $hitty man – you’re like his F’in idol He wants to be just like you man, he likes ICS more than I doAnyways, I hope you get this Verizon Galaxy Nexus, hit me back, just to chat, with a strong release date, truly yours, your biggest fan This is Stan

    1. My tea’s gone cold, I’m wondering why I got out of bed at all. Morning rain clouds out my window, I can’t see at all. Even if I could it would all be grey, with no Nexus in my hand. That reminds me that Verizon sucks. Verizon suuuucks.

  44. It is completely clear now that verizon is getting a kick out of this.

  45. My friend works at the main store in downtown, and he told me it’s gonna be Friday the 16th that it will launch.  They have about 50 of the phones in stock and accessories.  And the lucky bastard was the only employee who got to have the Nexus as his work phone.  He got the phone yesterday and has been messaging me on how nice it is.  He didn’t have a price on how much it’s gonna be either.

And I also kept telling him, are you sure it’s not getting launched Thursday the 15th, but he kept telling me no, it’ll be Friday the 16th.

  46. I just called my local VZ person here in Canton, GA… the sales rep said (after talking to her manager) that they had them in stock and were selling them tomorrow. Take that with a grain of salt of course, but I’m still hoping for tomorrow.

  47. So, here’s my two cents. I was at Costco yesterday and the guy told me they would be selling the GNex on the 15th. He said they don’t have them in stock yet, but always get the phones the morning that they start selling them. Yes, I realize that this means nothing…he could be wrong, Verizon could change the date again, et cetera, but I’ve got to have a star to hang my hopes on.

  48. So coming out NYE?

  49. Wow I really hope they launch this thing soon because I am really getting tired of hearing about it and listening to all you people cry like whiny school girls.

  50. I just went and picked it up unlocked the other day and switched to T-Mobile.  Nobody puts baby in a corner.

    Edit: the other day*

  51. “We have no choice but to accept it anyway”.

SCREW THAT!  I exercised my choice to NOT be kept strung along and got an LG Nitro HD instead.

  52. At first I was a little angry with Verizon’s silence thus far. But now that they’ve given this pathetic announcement, I now realize that the silence was better. I feel like they’re making a fool of us. I seriously doubt we’re getting an announcement today. We might get some information tomorrow, but I doubt that too. Ugh.

  53. Lol, so it’s not coming out tomorrow. Oh well, I’m patient enough to wait for a smartphone that I’ve lived without for the last 25 years.

  54. I still blame Google for giving Verizon exclusive on this phone. If that hadn’t happen I doubt this would..

In a way this whole Verizon/nexus thing has reminded me why I told myself years ago that I would never get a phone on Verizon again. They always have to mess with stuff they don’t need to be messing with.

Hopefully I won’t have to wait too long before another carrier is able to release this.

  55. unlocked gsm nexus ftw! sorry to those of u on verizon and sprint!

    1. HAHA 4GLTE!! +32gb sorry for you’re on at&t

  56. I just talked with a customer service rep and they did confirm that the phone would be available tomorrow.  They also said it could be ordered online starting at 12am 12/15!! :)

  57. Jesus this is getting insane.

  58. Yes, It may make it to Dec 28th,  the day I can get it at subsidized rate.

  59. Verizon=worst carrier in the us

  60. 12/15 will be my limit. If its not out then I have no problem waiting on something else in the next 3 months. It is after all just a phone. And honestly, I really really don’t want VZ to have my business at this point.

And people, please stop listening to store employees like they know the gospel. They are grunts just like you and I. They know maybe slightly more than you and I on the GN. They know what they know at that moment. But things change quickly and what they knew could no longer be true an hour later. They are just given info by “someone somewhere”. They don’t make the decisions. It mind as well be info from a blog.

  61. I just got off the phone with a rep from a Verizon store in my local town, he said for sure it will be here tomorrow, he said he just got his a day early because he will be the one helping people out with it.  After getting all excited about the launch tomorrow he said hold on, put me on a hold for a couple minutes and then told me that tomorrow is a no go for sure.  Sorry to burst everyone’s bubble but it looks like at least I am out of luck for tomorrow. Good luck to everyone else.

  62. Morons! At least Apple only stays mum until the product announcement and then announce a date to get your hands on their product. These idiots really don’t know how to do it! The entire world has it but not the U.S. It’s a huge embarrassment to Google too… this is their baby and this launch is just embarrassing

  63. Just called the southfield, mi store (telegraph location) and was told that they have them in stock and can sell them tomorrow.

    1. Just went down there and played with it.  Mine is set aside.  The associate told me he was told about an hour and a half ago that they for sure are selling them tomorrow.  I am trying not to get too excited…

  64. I called verizon and got confirmation tomorrow is the day.  I made an appointment for 10am and they are holding one for me.

    1. Same here. Wish me luck and I’ll do the same.

  65. I think its coming soon. Real soon. This week. I went on to Best Buy’s website and they have an accessory for sale for the galaxy nexus already. It wasn’t there yesterday. I checked. It has to mean that it is coming….I’m just saying…

  66. I was just at my VZW store during my lunch break, and they said tomorrow the Galaxy Nexus will be available.

My fingers are crossed, but I am not holding my breathe…..

  67. Yay Verizon. Great… um… well, good job with the… uh… f   k er s

  68. For what its worth I just called my local Verizon store and when I asked about a Galaxy Nexus she put me on hold, then told me it was supposed to launch on the 9th and got delayed. She did say they would be selling them tomorrow!

    1. Yes I can confirm that. I’ll be picking up mine tomorrow.

  69. I’ll be passing on it.  While Verizon has missed multiple deadlines it
gave me time to do some additional research.   The Nexus looks good and
ICS will be great.  The problem with the Nexus is it is using a weak
cpu/gpu (a 3 year old gpu) and the mediocre pentile display which in not true 720p.
The terrible internals on the Nexus do no outweigh the design &
ICS.  There are already phones out there with better processing power:
Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note, iPhone 4S.  And the Galaxy phones will be
getting ICS in Q1.  Plus in 3-4 months the quad cores and A15 dual cores
will be out with true 720p displays.  The Verizon delays did not make
the Nexus obsolete, it was obsolete when it was announced.

P.S. Plus Verizons faulty LTE network is no plus.

    1. I never cared for the last Nexus phone.  I felt the Evo was better.

    2. CRACKHEAD!!!

  70. They wan’t y’all to buy the RAZR!!  I got the Rezound.  I’m happy with it.

and reliability with our network. Verizon Wireless will not offer a

  72. Just talked to the guy at my local Verizon store and he said it will be coming out tomorrow.  Unless there is another last minute delay, sounds like I’ll have my new shiny Galaxy Nexus tomorrow!

  73. So I get a call from my local Verizon store telling me I can pick up my GNex tomorrow when they open. Got that call at 3:28 pm eastern time.  Just got another call at 4:44 pm claiming they just got an email postponing the launch again.  WTF Verizon, get it right.

  74. No way I’m paying $299 for this thing.  It’s going to drop to $199 a month after the release.  Verizon just wants to get rid of these and sell as few of them as they can.

  75. Local Verizon Rep texted me back this evening …

Per your request. Official announcement samsung nexus launches tomorrow. We open at 9am

  76. A rep from my store in Atlanta just called me back to confirm that they are “definitely, without doubt launching the phone tomorrow” Her exact words.

  77. CHECK ENGADGET AND PCMAGAZINE! VERIZON RELEASED A STATEMENT SAYING THE PHONE GOES ON SALE TOMORROW FOR $299.99 W/2-YEAR CONTRACT! IT GOES UP FOR SALE ON THE WEBSITE TONIGHT AT 1AM!!

    NO JOKE, 100% SERIOUS
