Upcoming Facebook For Android Refresh Spied In Leaked Images

26

Looks like Facebook for Android will soon be receiving a much needed refresh. The leaked images above show not only a new UI layout but the addition of an extra icon for your app drawer that will most likely take a user straight to the “Check In” location of the app. The refresh will take the version number up to 1.8 and any changes will most likely be welcomed with open arms. The Facebook app for Android is one of the most hated in the Android Market so the boys at Facebook definitely have their work cut out for them. For a few more shots, hit up the source link below.

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  1. Looks like the iOS version. Hopefully it performs better than the bug riddled iOS version.

    1. Hopefully it works with ICS. I don’t even have a menu button.

  2. Yeah, hope it will support ICS (need to access the “menu” to change Notification).

And where is the tablet version?

    1. At least it is smoother on the Gnex but we do need that menu button.

And where the hell is the tablet version!

  3. Here are my predictions for the new app:

    – Application will be buggy.
    – Application will eat battery.
    – Application usability will decrease from previous version.
    – Application will still require you to visit the Facebook website to do basic functions

All predictions are based on past experiences with the last “updated and improved” version of the app.

    1. Yeah I have new problems with it working on my Gnex but I’m glad it doesn’t eat 70% of my battery like it did on my Nexus S.

  4. You know, I really hate when I install an app, and it throws multiple icons into my app drawer….. I downloaded 1 app, not 2 or 3 or 4…….
It’s annoying. Much like after downloading a widget or live wallpaper or something and it throws an app icon into your app drawer that does nothin but bring you to an about screen or something. Why are you here cluttering my drawer o_O?

    1. Just use the launcher settings to hide unwanted icons from your app drawer!

      1. I use ADW and this is what I am forced to do in a way.
It doesn’t allow you to hide app icons. It allows you to create groups and then choose which apps you would like to appear in said group.
It would make far more sense to choose which apps I would like to hide rather then what apps I would like to show…..
While it does the job, it’s rather annoying that everytime I DL a new
app, I have to go to the app drawer, and manage my group settings inorder to make the app apear. :(

        1. Try Go Launcher EX. I have set on it after having tried almost every launcher worth a try. It just is the most flexible, well functioning launcher out there.

          1. Ill look into it. Thanks.

    2. Same here…thank god ICS will let me hide those icons!

    3. Agreed, not sure why they can’t just tie it into the app. I don’t need a dedicated Messaging and Checkin button. Christ, I dont even check in on facebook. Why tell the whole world i’m at the bar getting a drink when i’m supposed to be working ;)

    4. To be fair, the reason widget and wallpaper developers added an app icon and info screen was because too many idiots were down-rating their apps with comments like “IT DOESN’T WORK!!11!” or “I DOWNLOAD BUT IT DOESN’T OPEN!!!!11!!!”

  5. I use FriendCaster. Its way better than the facebook for android app. It gives you more options and it puts all post in order of time

    1. I agree, Friendcaster has owned FB for Android for quite some time.

  6. Always thought Facebook for WebOS was the best there ever was.

    1. FB for webOS is ok, it still needs an update. It has no chat and I cannot like comments within a status.

  7. I hope that there is a tablet version.  the current app is a phone app, and it sucks.

  8. Hopefully it won’t hide a bunch of content and disable functions like the current version..

  9. I got rid of the official facebook app ever since I made a call to my landlord, and the next day, online, it suggested that we be friends. Way too invasive!

    1. please stop this BS is only as invasive AS YOU ALLOW IT TO BE.
Typical….. blame Facebook instead of taking any responsibility for your own self

  10. I love updates… While I know the facebook app needs major work, its getting better. its like 2 steps forward one step back. LOL. Just release that shit!

  11. I have been using the mobile version since they refreshed that and it is fantastic

  12. Anything is better then what’s out now.

  13. So it will look like the web browser ui? Lol
