GO Locker for Android Provides Beautiful Homescreen Replacements

21

Our friends from the excellent and creative GO Team have created Go Locker. It’s a lockscreen replacement app and was built on top of their popular and flexible GO Launcher EX. Just like its homescreen replacement counterpart, Go Locker emphasizes themes, customization and beauty in their offering.

Most of the themes allow you to unlock the phone to either the homescreen, the dialer or the messaging app. Some of them also add the ability to unlock to the camera application. As you can see in the screen above, you’ll also be alerted to how many miss calls and texts there are.

Unfortunately there doesn’t look to be any support for customizing these icons or the lockscreens’ wallpapers. We imagine some of this will change in future updates. On top of that, Go Launcher Ex has also gotten an update today. Below you can find some of the things to expect upon downloading:

  1. (New) Support GO Locker (Path: preferences-themes settings)
  2. (New) New user interface and function for theme preview
  3. (New) Add preview to GO Launcher shortcut
  4. (New) Cylinder and sphere transition for home screen
  5. (Improve) Return to app drawer after exiting an app opened in drawer
  6. (Fix) Error of the dock in horizontal mode

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Looks just like the MIUI lockscreen :P This could be really cool, although when I tried WidgetLocker it was quite sluggish compared to stock so we will see how this performs.

  2. Ive been using widgetlocker for quite a while now. Doesn’t ever appear sluggish to me though. It came in real handy this year at DragonCon.

  3. yep, that’s been lifted directly from MIUI, the scoundrels!

  4. I love GO Launcher. I have tried several and found GO to be the best. I’m anxious to try this home screen replacement app too.

  5. I would like a locker that changes based on orientation.

  6. At the moment, it comes with “iPhone,” “Sense,” “Honeycomb,” and “MIUI” themes although they aren’t named that as well as a cool one that is kind of like WP7 but horizontal. Looking forward to more customization options.

  7. With Sense, the original sense lock comes up, then theirs does. It isn’t quite working well. That said, I downloaded the Go Launcher and love it. I am sticking with that launcher

  8. Downloaded it for my Nexus 4G, and i gotta say im lovin it with the Sense theme. I love the ability to hop straight into my messages. I know its taken from HTC, but having it on my phone is pretty cool.

Thanks GO team, keep up the good work!

  9. I dont like it. The lock screen is similar to MIUI, but MIUI is better. Also, it disabled my lock pattern. The rest of it is just styling that isnt necessary. Give me TW4 or stock. Thanks, but no thanks.

  10. Just got it. It just needs a change to the background and its pretty much perfect.

  11. i have been using widget locker for a long time and love but will have to try this one as i love the go launcher!!!

  12. Security needs to be implemented before I jump on board.

  13. I’ve been using GO Launcher Ex for a while now on my Sensation. One of the best launchers available, IMO. I tried Go Locker but, like most lockscreen replacements, it just doesn’t feel right to me. Sometimes there’s a little lag and if you lock and unlock too fast you see the last screen sometimes (Widgetlocker explains why this happens). Honestly, the lockscreen options in CM7 are plenty good for me. The ‘Ring’ style is similar to Sense and you can customize up to 4 apps to launch from the lockscreen. They can also be themed a bit also.

  14. I love GoLauncher- but the only thing I like about Sense 3.0 is the lock screen. This one is a poor substitute. Love the swooping weather or stock updates or photo album. Plus having 4 apps ready to go (mine are Calculator, Kindle, Flashlight, and Camera) is too much to have to give up.

  15. I might come back to GO Launcher if this lock screen turns out well. GO Launcher was, for some reason, really slow on my Droid and would reload the icons (slowly) every time I returned to the home screen.

…though I’ve had bad experiences with replacement lock screens, save for those baked into roms and such. The ones from the Market always end up glitching over the default locker or messing up with the custom lock screens that activate for various music players (Player Pro specifically because it’s lock screen is awesome).

  16. I’m spoiled by Launcher Pro+ and it’s scrolling dock. Anybody know of another launcher that has a scrolling customizable dock?

    1. Go launcher does

      1. Thanks dude! I’ll check it out.

  17. how can I fix the system lock from not showing up before go locker? Right now it brings up the original lock and once that is unlocked, go locker comes in. I don’t need 2

  18. I like everything about it, except that it shows the time with a.m. and p.m. even though I use 24hour-clock in my phone… And the day of the week would also be nice to have in the phones default language.. Swedish, in my case

I hope this will be fixed. Cuz I really like this app and all other GO!-stuff as well! :).

  19. I love it minus one thing. Every theme I download sits in my app drawer. I hate having lots of icons in my app drawer. Unless I’m missing something. Is there a way to not have them in the app drawer?
