Minecraft Now in the Android Market, Kristen Schaal Wants You to Build her a Palace

As promised, Minecraft Pocket Edition has left its period of Xperia Play exclusivity and launched in the Android Market for all handsets capable of supporting the game. Though Sony Ericsson no longer holds exclusive dibs, they are still issuing a challenge to the Minecraft community to build comedian and Xperia Play spokeswoman Kristen Schaal an in-game palace. The person with the best creation will score an opportunity to hang out with Ms. Schaal and show her the Minecraft ropes. We will try to avoid imagining the awkward interaction that will ensue.

Atlanta, GA – October 7, 2011 – Are you a budding Minecraft™architect dying to showcase your construction skills to the world? Then get ready for the build of your life.

Today, Sony Ericsson issued a challenge to the Minecraft community to build something extraordinary for comedian and Minecraft newbie Kristen Schaal. The winner will win a trip to New York to meet Kristen while claiming Minecraft master bragging rights.

“We know there’s a dedicated Minecraft community out there and by issuing this challenge, we’ll see how they showcase their creativity and skills for the ultimate Minecraft building project,” said Peter Farmer, Head of Marketing, North America at Sony Ericsson. “I can’t wait to see what kind of captivating designs and pixelations the North American Minecraft community create for Kristen.”

“I’ve always had a soft spot for gamers, so the chance to do something with Xperia™ PLAY gamers, and Minecraft gamers in particular, was something that I was totally into,” said Kristen Schaal, comedian and Minecraft newbie. “Plus, I am looking forward to having the world’s largest collection of giant, pixelated buildings.”

The “Build for Kristen” contest starts October 7, 2011 and will run through November 7, 2011. A representative of Mojang, the indie game developer studio based in Stockholm, Sweden that created Minecraft, will be part of the judging process. • XDrum

bah, additional work or not, i think many people would appreciate at least a promotional offer reserved to “early adopters”.

(Indeed this will encourage peeps to drop an additional token to support this porting)

Uh.. 7 bucks? Seriously? I have the PC version, and I love it, but 7 bucks? According to reviews you cant really do anything anyways. I think Ill pass until its better.

Just I case anyone has these questions.

This is not minecraft, compleatly seperate game based on minecraft, so..
No, you don’t get this free with PC version as there different games,
You can’t play on your PC versions multiplayer server with this for the same reason,
Lastly, the physics seem to be a bit simplified compared to the PC version. Water doesn’t flow and fill the same for example. And there no survival mode.

All the negative out of the way, this is alpha.. we can expect alot more from mojang, this is similar to alpha on the PC and will likely follow in the PC’s versions foot steps of greatness given time.

She’s like a geeky Marilyn Monroe. The best of both worlds.
